Trade Compliance Analyst

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

- HTS Classification:



  • Classifies SHW products with Harmonized Tariff Schedule of US and HTS of other countries using general rules of interpretation, other tariff regulatory information, product chemistry, product function, and customs rulings.
  • Responds to internal and external customer inquiries for HTS classification, ECCN and USML.


- ECCN Classification:



  • Determine ECCN classification of products, based on data points. Refer products of concern to supervisor for review.


- Free Trade Agreements Eligibility Review:



  • Determines eligibility of manufactured products for preferential treatments under free trade agreements such as USMCA.
  • Ensures proper documentation, such as raw material certificates of Origin, are collected from suppliers as required, indexed, and maintained in product databases. Works with purchasing groups to procure annual COO for both chemical raw materials, intermediates and purchased articles such as tape, brushes, rollers, shirts, pants, color cards.
  • Responds to internal and external customer inquiries for COO, USMCA, and other Free Trade Agreements
  • Complies data and files FTA duty refund applications.


- Trade Compliance Support:



  • Support import broker management, using knowledge of import regulations and company policies and procedures to assist in import clearance.
  • Support monthly broker metrics reporting and exception follow-up.
  • Support customs entry audit activities
  • Support data clean-up activities.
  • Support customer requests for information.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement to key processes
  • Monitor CBSA Monthly Statement of Account for accuracy and refund tracking.


- Other responsibilities and projects to support the Trade Compliance team, as assigned.

FORMAL EDUCATION:

Required:



  • Bachelor's degree in International Business, International Relations, or other with relevant import/export, customs brokerage or trade compliance experience, OR Chemistry, other physical or biological science


Preferred:



  • US Customs Broker's license


KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Required:



  • Minimum of 1 years of Trade Compliance, Customs Brokerage, Import/Export, and/or Regulatory related experience
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in managing and analyzing large data sets
  • Familiarity and general understanding of Free Trade Agreements (NAFTA, CAFTA, AUSFTA, etc.)
  • Familiarity and general understanding of Harmonized Tariff Schedules


Preferred:



  • Three years experience in Trade Compliance, Customs Brokerage, Import/Export, and/or Regulatory
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with import and export
  • Experience interpreting codes of federal regulations
  • Experience in dealing with governmental agencies
  • Experience in tariff classification of chemicals
  • Customer service experience


TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Required:



  • Intermediate experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Team oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills
