How Is This Role Important to Our Work?

Our summer intern will support the Government Programs Product team as it prepares for the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (10/1-12/7) and the launch of its 2025 products on 1/1/2025. Readiness activities include reviewing Medicare marketing materials and member communication documents for medical and prescription drug benefit accuracy; development of materials (presentations, "sell" sheets, talking points) to support broker education of upcoming benefit changes for 2025. Our summer intern will also participate in product development initiatives and planning for 2026 and beyond. Product development initiatives and planning may include identifying process improvement efficiencies, project management, and strategy support.

A few highlights of this summer internship include:

  • Access to executive Blue Cross and Blue Shield leadership through introductory meetings scheduled on behalf of the intern
  • Opportunity to engage in additional projects related to your areas of career / business interest in addition to internship project
  • Attendance at key business unit meetings with divisional leadership
  • Bi-weekly meetings with Director of Government Programs Product to discuss your internship, healthcare, other topics of interest and career development
  • Opportunity to connect with the Medicare broker community at key events in which Blue Cross Blue Shield of MN is a participant

Day in the Life

  • Review marketing and member communication documents for health plan product and benefit accuracy
  • Develop talking points and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Medicare products
  • Co-create power point presentations on Medicare products for broker awareness
  • Provide support to BCBSMN sales team at local conferences (attend broker sessions, support BCBSMN information booth)
  • Participate in product development and planning meetings
  • Support overall Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (10/15-12/7) readiness

Nice to Have:

  • Interest in healthcare, insurance, Medicare, or government programs
  • Experience or strong interest in proofreading, editing, writing
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • College graduation date from 4-yr program by Spring 2026 or earlier
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize projects and juggle changing priorities while working under tight deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
