Position Summary |
This is responsible detailed work within the University Police Department.
Work involves dealing with the public through personal contact, telephone, and radio communications. Work is performed in accordance with department rules and regulations. A uniform designated by the department will be worn at all times while on duty. Employees allocated to this class of work will be assigned to a specialized function which requires knowledge abilities usually acquired through formal training and experience on the job. Guidance and direction are provided by the senior communications officer. Work has dedication to public service often made difficult by emotional or physical stress of events. Work is reviewed through conferences, written reports, inspection, and observations of results obtained. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Knowledge of standard police practices and techniques.
- Knowledge of university properties, population, and traffic control problems.
- Ability to deal courteously with the public and fellow police officers.
- Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively, and on own initiative, to determine proper course of action.
- Ability to obtain the proper information through telephone and personal interview.
- Ability to speak and write effectively.
- Ability to meet specific physical requirements that may be established by competent authority.
