Position Purpose |
Serves as the primary leader, to plan, direct, and implement goals and initiatives that continuously elevates the overall brand and storytelling related to strategic communications, media relations, and public relations for the Dartmouth College Athletics and Recreation Department (
DCARD). To lead and manage all day-to-day operations of the strategic content office in ongoing innovation and advancement of the industry. Serve as the chief storyteller of the department while overseeing all publications and web sites relating to Dartmouth's 35 varsity sports. A successful candidate will also serve as the primary liaison with the college's communications office while coordinating all media relations (print, electronic, and web-based); managing home contest media services and press areas; serving as principal editor and writer for the department; and maintains all historical records pertaining to the performance of Dartmouth varsity teams and athletes. |

- At least seven years of experience leading a digital team and/or managing a website, including a web redesign project, in a decentralized environment.
- Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related area.
- Ability to identify business and design goals and execute high-quality projects on time and on budget.
- Clear understanding of web writing, design, user experience, and marketing. Ability to translate these concepts for non-technical colleagues to build consensus and buy-in on new initiatives.
- Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.
- Skill in the use of computer software such as InDesign, PhotoShop and StatCrew/NCAA LiveStats.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Supervisory and project leadership experience.
- Strong organizational skills. Ability to supervise and prioritize the work of others.
- Ability to work independently and as a team leader with initiative, creativity, and sound judgment. Must work nights and weekends and have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications |
- 10 years of relevant experience in a sports information, communications, public relations department, preferably in a college/university environment, or the equivalent.

Description |
Administration
- Serve as departmental liaison with all college publication & communication offices, while developing the strategy for external and internal constituent communication. Primary athletics department contact for any crisis communication with campus.
- Provide leadership and strategic storytelling skills while developing staff to ensure a high standard of content strategy, brand development, creative ideation, and strategic communications for all of DCARD.
- Advise, develop, and execute DCARD public relations strategy in consultation with the Director of Athletics or Recreation or designated staff.
- Oversee staff to ensure strategic priorities and alignment of coverage for all 35 sport programs and DCARD while maintaining personal proficiency as well as staff proficiency on all industry shifts.
- Oversees both the organization and maintenance of all permanent records of Dartmouth varsity athletics, including letterwinner lists; results of team contests and all relevant statistics; individual performances of interest; national and regional polls; and other information as appropriate.
- Responsible for development and management of annual budget and all financial aspects of strategic communications.
- Recruits, hires, trains, and develops full time and auxiliary staff.
- Represent Dartmouth with the Ivy League, NCAA, ECAC, and other related organizations.

Description |
Media Strategy
- Develop, implement, and educate relevant constituent groups on DCARD communication strategy as well as execute the strategy, while leading a team of 6 full time employees.
- Serve as the primary contact for selected sports.
- Serves as direct contact with all media representatives (i.e., print, online, radio, and television) interested in Dartmouth College Athletics & Recreation. Responsible for the development, editing, and distribution of all media releases, feature stories, and hometown releases. Developing concepts and assigning material to staff and freelancers as appropriate.
- Responsible for the staffing and management of press areas for selected home contests, including issuance of credentials, assignment and supervision of statisticians and support personnel, and establishment of a professional atmosphere.
- Collaborates with the varsity sports administration on the nomination of student-athletes for the NCAA and CoSIDA Academic All-America awards, Academic All-Ivy recognition, and other general and sport-specific awards.
- Provides appropriate media material including game notes, programs, statistics, and media guides while arranging in-game and post-game interviews as appropriate.
- Enhance regional and national media exposure.
- Travels as needed with varsity teams, serving as communications contact while providing administrative support.

Brand Advancement
- Collaborates closely with the DCARD External Strategy team to ensure that all strategic content (e.g., website, digital, broadcast, etc.) effectively serves alumni, students, parents, recruits, fans, and media while ensuring consistency of brand expectations and storytelling.
- Responsible for all aspects of web site, including but not limited to design, accuracy, updates, maintenance, and content.
- Develop programs as needed for both athletically related and alumni-related events (e.g., Wearers of the Green, Celebration of Excellence, and other celebrations and events.
