The opportunity

Job Summary:

Southern New Hampshire University is currently seeking a summer term Library Assistant for our Campus location to provide exceptional assistance to library users in person. Library Assistants serve as the first point of contact for users of the Wolak Library Learning Commons, and are required to be familiar with library operations, maintain user confidentiality, and able to communicate effectively with supervisors, users, peers, and faculty. Assistants should also be detail oriented, and demonstrate a commitment to teamwork, responsibility, and flexibility regarding work schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet and direct users of the Wolak Library Learning Commons (WLLC) and respond to user inquiries in person

  • Have working knowledge of Shapiro Library service points, as well as other units housed in the Wolak Library Learning Commons, and direct users as needed to appropriate resources within the WLLC

  • Have knowledge of the SNHU campus to direct users and guests to other campus locations

  • Assist users with print/scanning and basic computer problems; refill copiers with paper, and students should be familiar with basic functions of Print Management System

  • Circulate materials accurately and efficiently; students should have working knowledge of circulation policies and procedures

  • Demonstrate accuracy with shelving library items and shelf reading library collection; students should be familiar with the various library collections, fluent in the Library of Congress call number system, and possess strong attention to detail

  • Perform hourly headcount of users in WLLC building, including accurate data entry of counts

  • Maintain confidentiality of user records

  • Assist Information Desk Supervisors with routine tasks

  • Assist in general maintenance of library facility-including, but not limited to, basic cleaning, pushing in chairs, and general tidying

  • Must be able to lift, reach, grasp, kneel, climb on step stools, bend, and push/pull possibly heavy book carts to move items around the library

  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs

  • Run errands between buildings as necessary

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in SNHU degree program

  • Work study as part of financial package

  • Proficiency in English is required

  • Punctual, courteous, respectful and report to work as scheduled

  • Self-starter

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Team player

Work Hours:

Shifts: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 1:00pm -5:00pm
