Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide competent, proficient technical skills in the performance of emergency and routine CT procedures, implementing procedural standards and protocols.
    • 1)Ability to access a vein for the purpose of injecting contrast.
    • 2)Ability to recognize contraindications and adverse reactions to oral IV contrast.
    • 3)Ability to recognize abnormal/normal pathologies and apply the proper protocol.
    • 4)Familiarity with cross-sectional anatomy.
    • 5)Demonstrate competence in the operation of equipment (laser, scanner, injector, processor, crash cart) and report equipment problems to appropriate individuals or contracted services
    • 6)Ability to function without supervision
    • 7)Rotate shifts when necessary.
    • 8)Participate in on-call rotation if needed. Must respond to emergency call-in within 45 minutes.
    • 9)Rotate holiday coverage
    • 10)Ability to assist Radiologist with all invasive procedures and Perform clerical duties as required.
  • Provide patient care specific to procedural requirements and patients' needs within established Department protocols
    • 1)Provide for patient comfort and safety for all procedures
    • 2)Respond to patient/physician complaints quickly. Report all complaints to appropriate supervisor
    • 3)Respond to patients questions pertaining to specific procedures
    • 4)Coordinate multiple exams between CT and other departments
    • 5)Maintain patient confidentiality in all areas including computer, patient charts, and patient communications
    • 6)Maintain professional attitude toward patients and fellow associates
    • 7)Transport patients when Patient Escort services are not available
    • 8)Provide immobilization and radiation shielding devices as necessary
  • Documentation of department records
    • 1)Participate in documentation of CQI/QA and ACR statistics.
    • 2)Participate in properly stocking rooms, checking and ordering of supplies
    • 3)Understands and can operate RadNet and CareConnection.
    • 4)Documentation of patients histories and records as required.
    • 5)Process appropriate paperwork, including handling of requisitions, logging of test and charging patients
  • Comply with established hospital safety standards to ensure patient and staff well being
    • 1)Maintain CPR certification, IEMA and ARRT.
    • 2)Operate equipment in a safe manner according to Hospital and Department Policies and Procedures on safety
    • 3)Use Universal Precautions in daily performance of procedures
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the organization by supporting and adapting to changes consistent with operating goals
    • 1)Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility for change.
    • 2)Demonstrate reliability for attendance and punctuality.
    • 3)Maintain compliance with Regulatory Standards and procedures (current IEMA and ARRT).
  • Provide training assistance to new associates and radiology tech students. Assist in preparation, submission, and adherence to ACR standards and ACR accreditation for CT.
  • Keep current on new trends in the field of CT including attending continuing education programs and inservices. Complete all required competencies as required by Hospital and Regulatory standards. Obtain and remain in good standing with CT certification within one year of hire.

Education/Experience Required:

  • 1 year Radiology tech experience - Graduate of approved Radiology Technology Program and Certification in CT.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Familiarity with CT keyboard - Familiar with all CT equipment
  • ARRT, IEMA, CPR, CT Certification

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to anticipate patient, employee and department needs and act appropriately on those needs. - Weekend, holiday and after hour's call-ins in order to accommodate patient and staff needs. - Weekend rotation during normal hours - Ability to sit, stand for extended periods of time. - Exposure to critically ill patients. - Ability to start IV's - Good communication skills both written and oral - Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
