SBA Closing Team Lead

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provides guidance, mentorship, and coaching to your team of SBA Loan Closing Specialists. This includes training them on SBA loan programs, closing procedures, and best practices.
  • Oversees the entire SBA loan closing process for your team, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently, accurately, and within deadlines. This may involve scheduling, workload distribution, and quality control.
  • Maintains a deep understanding of SBA loan program regulations and ensure your team adheres to all bank and SBA compliance requirements.
  • Identifies and addresses any potential issues that may arise during the closing process. Implement strategies to mitigate risks and ensure successful loan closings.
  • Communicates effectively with internal stakeholders (loan officers, underwriters) and external parties (borrowers, attorneys) to keep everyone informed and ensure a smooth closing process.
  • Tracks team performance metrics, identify areas for improvement, and report on closing efficiencies to senior management.

  • Assists with other tasks and projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have in-depth knowledge of SBA loan programs (e.g., 7(a), 504) and their specific closing requirements
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of SBA loan closing requirements with a comprehensive knowledge of federal and state regulations
  • Must have a strong understanding of commercial lending regulations and compliance procedures
  • Must have an excellent understanding of title reports, lien searches, lease documentation, equity injection, and acquisition documentation
  • Must have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must have excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, along with interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and loan processing software (e.g., Loan origination systems like NCino, AFSVision)
  • Must have ability to understand all business processes within the credit union
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, adept at managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively, along with being resourceful, well-organized, and demonstrating a strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Must have the ability to coordinate diverse tasks simultaneously within stringent time frames
  • Must be able to participate in all required SBA and Bank compliance training (including but not limited to NAGGL, Bank Secrecy Act, etc.), as well as Company annual meetings and lead training if needed.
  • Must be able to work in a general office environment
  • Must be flexible and able to shift resources and priorities as required
  • Should possess a strong commitment to providing excellent service to Truliant's members

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and stooping required
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer
  • Must be able to moderately lift or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds

Education and Background

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field or 5-10 years of SBA closing experience required
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and motivating a team required
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Previous Audit or compliance experience preferred
