Responsibilities

  • Function as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for pre-analytical specimen preparation and processing; embedding, microtomy and maintaining the equipment under the direction of Histology/Pathology department leadership, Pathologist or designee.
  • Perform specimen grossing of surgically removed tissue under the supervision of the Pathologist.
  • Other duties may arise and be carried out as assigned to meet quality standards expected for patient care.
  • All duties performed will be within the guidelines set forth by regulatory and hospital guidelines to maintain, manage and assure specimen integrity.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors in histotechnology, laboratory science, obtained from an accredited institution, OR bachelors in biology or chemistry with education/training equivalent.
  • Certification is not required for this position.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Experience within a clinical or anatomic pathology department
  • Six months experience as Histotechnician
