Title: Project Aware Coordinator

$60,000 - $65,000 / Posted Thru: 4-29-24

Funded Thru: 9-30-25

Location: Hybrid - Lansing, MI Office

Purpose: This position is responsible for implementation of the Project AWARE-SEA grant in partnership with Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and other state departments with focus on the children's behavioral health goals and activities. Project AWARE Coordinator will also be responsible for the building and maintaining partnership with Ottawa Intermediate School District as well as Black Family Development Inc. and aiding in the implementation of the two additional AWARE grants.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Support and interact with stakeholders at the state level and in the targeted communities within the state of Michigan in developing their children's behavioral health activities to facilitate the achievement of the project goals.
  • Work with the project evaluator and assure the project is focused and following the required work plan and timeframes.
  • Work in partnership with MDE Project Director, Project Coordinator and State Core Team and the State Management Team as well as local leaders.
  • Building and maintain positive relationships, facilitating meetings, providing technical assistance, creating presentations, and additional involvement with other state led projects.
  • Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.
  • All other duties as assigned.



Qualifications/Requirements:

Education: Master of Social Work (MSW), Master of Arts (MA) in Psychology or Professional Counseling.

Experience: Experience in administering and/or providing evidence-based public children's mental health services and experience in the administration or provision of substance use disorder prevention services. Experience working in educational settings, public mental health programs/settings (PIHP/CMHSP), education programs and/or prevention programs for children, youth, and families. The candidate can apply clinical skills to systems level approaches.

Has expertise in and experience in planning, implementation and evaluation of initiatives including experience in cross system planning. Successful experience with public behavioral health programs that interface with school- age child serving systems.

Important Skills and Characteristics:



  • Knowledge of systems level planning; system level collaborative approaches to facilitate Project Aware planning and implementation activities.
  • Skills in cross system/strategic planning and implementation activities as well as evaluation of a multi-faceted project.
  • Child behavioral health and programmatic expertise, project management abilities are required.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, electronic, etc.); work well with a range of professionals, system partners and parents/youth; organizational skills, be a self-starter, and be able to assist others in "think globally" and, also, to identify barriers to operationalizing programs and planning approaches.



Work Environment and Physical Requirements: The position may require moderate physical effort including lifting materials and equipment of <50# and involves viewing a CRT or VDT screen 25% to 75% o f the time. Standard office environment. May require valid vehicle operator's license to perform duties of the position. Travel within the state, as needed, including Upper Peninsula; anticipated to travel for the project technical assistance meetings (out of state) as scheduled.
