The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking
qualified candidates for Bus Traffic Controller.

General Description
Performs advanced and supervisory communications work in receiving and dispatching messages for controlling routine and emergency Transit bus operations.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires four (4) years of experience in mass transit or transportation operations, including two (2) years of transit operations supervisory experience to have included either scheduling, dispatching, communications or operational data analysis.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A or B with relevant passenger endorsements.
Preferences
Associate, Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Business, Public Administration, Transportation Planning or closely related field.
Transit Systems Analysis Certification
Transit Management Certification
Transit Safety and/or Security Certification
Rail Traffic Control Operations Experience
BCT Transportation Leadership Program (TLP) Graduate
1+ year CAD/AVL Experience
1+ year MIDAS, Trapeze Ops, HASTUS or Giro Experience
1+ year Operations Control Center Experience
1+ year experience working in a union environment, including applying contract provisions

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

The Bus Traffic Controller must demonstrate knowledge of the operational characteristics of a fixed route transit system, which includes knowledge of schedules, forms, routes, regulations, rules and procedures used in highly advanced CAD/AVL transit dispatching systems and knowledge of the arterial and secondary road networks of Broward County. Ability to analyze and evaluate data, determine data requirements, and prepare recommendations and reports. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations. Ability to work a variety of shifts and days off with occasional unscheduled mandatory overtime. Some knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.). Other job functions are listed below:

Manages the operations of a communications center.

Provides notification to specific personnel during special requests and emergency procedures.

Coordinates system operations and personnel during emergency conditions.

Responds to calls and provide excellent customer service to all internal/external staff, customers and stakeholders.

Monitors and controls special bus movements.to deliver efficient service.

Maintains route and schedule adherence, mitigating delays by following failure management techniques.

Prepares and completes forms, reports, and tickets.

Performs related work as assigned.

Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
