This defined retirement benefit requires a 12.29% monthly contribution rate and includes a 100% employer match on Day 1 Learn more at We Require Six months of in-person customer service work experience High school diploma or GED We Also Value Experience working with domestic animals in a veterinary hospital, animal control, humane society, or another animal facility Bilingual Spanish and English-speaking skills Job Contributions Ensure shelter animals are properly housed and cared for within the guidelines of the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare, and use positive reinforcement training methods. Clean, disinfect, and maintain shelter apartments, kennels, cages, equipment, walkways, and general areas daily Cultivate positive relations with clients, volunteers and coworkers, provide quality customer service, and promote our mission, services, programs, and events. Participate in stress and disease reduction efforts through purposeful and compassionate low-stress handling and placement of animals Create and maintain necessary animal records and perform data entry Assist clients with the animal adoption process and facilitate client/animal interactions to ensure a safe and pleasant experience Receive animals into the shelter, scan for identification, enter information into the database, and take an identifying photograph Working Conditions Fast-paced animal shelter environment with exposure to extreme and varying temperatures, dogs and cats with unknown temperaments and behaviors, excessive noise, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, noise, vibration, animal waste and fluids, deceased animals, cleaning chemicals, and zoonotic diseases Ability to work as early as 5 AM and late as 7 PM, including weekends and holidays Ability to lift, bend, stoop, stand, and walk on various surfaces, including slippery, uneven, and rough Ability to exert 10-20 pounds constantly, 10-25 pounds frequently, and 50-100 pounds occasionally Selection Procedure Only the most qualified candidates will be considered Consideration will only be given to candidates who submit online applications Candidates will be contacted primarily through email and their Workday online application profile Must pass a pre-employment background and/or fingerprint investigation as required by statute or policy, including drug and alcohol testing requirements for positions designated as safety-sensitive Maricopa County is an equal opportunity employer.
