Job Title: Assistant Underwriter

Division: Property

Reports To: As per Beazley's organisation chart

Key Relationships: Brokers, Underwriters, Claims Staff, Other Staff, external Clients and suppliers

Job Summary: To provide underwriting support to the Commercial Property team and ensure that the administrative processes are run as efficiently to serve both internal and external clients.

FLSA: Exempt

Key Responsibilities:

Underwriting support

  • Review new and renewal submissions and initiate the underwriting process, including but not limited to:
    • Review accounts to understand the risk and exposure
    • Request missing information from brokers
    • Provide opinion of risk and recommendations to underwriters
    • Prepare raters, modelling, account loss history, and other tools as needed
    • Review inspection reports and track recommendation compliance
    • Provide year-over-year comparisons on accounts
  • Review MTA's (mid-term adjustments) and submit instructions for processing
  • Prepare and analyze reports as needed
  • Ensure compliance items are met within Beazley's policies and procedures
  • Provide ad hoc support to underwriters as needed
  • Organize and prepare manuscript policies for issuance

Broker/Client Interaction

  • Liaise with brokers and other key partners
  • Respond to client queries in an accurate and timely fashion
  • Provide professional service to brokers in person, by email and on the telephone
  • Chase open quotes and record final disposition

Internal Interaction

  • Liaise with internal support teams to ensure accurate document preparation
  • Coordinate with wordings/legal team to compose insurance contracts
  • Take an active role in training Underwriting Assistants and other team members
  • Submit instructions to Underwriting Assistants and be a resource for internal support staff
  • Provide assistance to internal support staff during peak periods if necessary

Education and Qualifications

Minimum graduate level / Bachelor's Degree education

  • Administrative Experience
  • Strong computer skills: Intermediate-Advanced Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to manage own time, meet deadlines and prioritise work
  • Accurate and numerate

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience in the insurance industry
  • Client service experience advantageous

Salary for this role will be tailored to the successful individual's location and experience. The expected compensation range for this position is 65k - 87k per year plus discretionary annual bonus. You will be able to discuss your salary expectations should you be contacted about this role.
