Overview

The Benefits Specialist: Retirement Plan Administrator is responsible for the administration of employee 401k and global pension programs, including providing administrative support to employees, retirees, and beneficiaries. This position also is the primary administrator for the health savings account and flexible spending account programs and provides support for all other benefit plans.

The ideal candidate will be experienced with group benefits plans including 401k plans. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a professional, customer focused approach and possess strong communication skills.

Work schedule is generally 8-5 M-F, some hybrid work may be an option, can be based out of Indianapolis or West Lafayette, Indiana.



Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    Administer retirement plan programs in accordance with plan documents.
  • Ensures the accuracy of all retirement plan enrollments and loan repayments in the recordkeeping and payroll systems utilizing reports and audits.
  • Recommend and implement new plan designs, including evaluating needs for emergency savings plans, student loan repayment plans, etc.
  • Promote financial wellness tools and resources.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and consultants, as well as internal communications, to develop ongoing benefits communications that engage employees using various tools and modes of communication.
  • Administer and promote health savings account and flexible spending account programs.
  • Coordinate transfer of data to external vendors for eligibility and plan administration.
  • Assist with preparation of reports and compliance testing required by law (e.g., Form 5500, nondiscrimination testing, etc.).
  • Coordinate 401k committee meetings along with fiduciary governance documentation.
  • Assist with other benefit programs as needed, such as group health, dental, vision, etc.
  • Respond to employee inquiries and issues in a timely manner, providing fast, equitable, and courteous resolution.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of standard office equipment.
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, to the floor and horizontally to file and reach for documents.
  • Clarity of vision at varying distances to be able to view payroll data and to operate a computer and other office equipment.
  • Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner.
  • Mental acuity to analyze, interpret data and problem solve.

Environment

  • Indoor office environment subject to frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
  • Constant use of computer and frequent use of standard office equipment such as a telephone, copier, printer, etc.


Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 1 year related retirement plan administration experience; preferred 2-3 years of experience.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills to effectively work with individuals both inside and outside of the company.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, while remaining detail oriented, accurate and efficient.
  • Working knowledge of payroll best practices and federal and state regulations.
  • Strong proficiency with PC skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated ability in decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person's relevant experience and/or education level.
