Collections Representative - National Remote

This position is full time. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.

We offer 4 weeks of paid training. The hours during training will be 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday - Friday.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Processing electronic transfer payments received from bank and matching to available electronic remittance advice or paper explanation of benefit for posting
  • Researches and follows-up on missing information, such as EOB and electronic remittances. Contact payers as necessary to obtain detailed info in regard to payments
  • Processing lockbox deposits received via mail and reconciling all payments received back to the bank deposit/credit received each day
  • Accurately collects and analyzes insurance, financial, and clinical data from multiple sources, and obtains other information necessary for billing purposes
  • Posts payments, correspondence, zero payments, denials and any other additional items received from insurance to patient accounts
  • Balance payments to deposits in systems and applications; while posting all payments to patient accounts, using both electronic and manual posting systems
  • Comprehend and resolve reconciliation issues
  • Handling any errors in deposit made by the bank
  • Being able to see issues on remits by scanning through daily database checkups and processing accordingly, and catching small issues before there is an impact on the client

Required Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma / GED
  • 1+ year of data entry experience
  • Background in a medical/healthcare or banking
  • Experience balancing bank deposits or cash draw reconciliation
  • Computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and navigation, mouse and keyboarding skills
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older
  • Ability to work full-time between 8:00am - 5:00pm including the flexibility to work occasional overtime given the business need


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working with at least one Practice Management System listed (Groupcast / Centricity / Flowcast / Athena / EPIC / ECW / NextGen / Allscripts)
  • Payment posting experience
  • Medical accounts receivable experience


Telecommuting Requirements:



  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy.
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service.


California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Washington or Rhode Island Residents Only: The hourly range for California / Colorado / Connecticut / Hawaii / Nevada / New York / New Jersey / Washington / Rhode Island residents is $16.54 - $32.55 per hour. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
