Summary of Job:

Director, NA Oncology MSL Team is a field-based position within the Medical Affairs Department. This field medical leadership role will be responsible for North American field medical team management and oversight of MSL field operations and function. This position is responsible for compliantly determining, establishing, and ensuring the execution of the Medical Affairs field strategy, including engaging in scientific exchange with health care professionals (HCPs), payers, and clinical trial investigators in the oncology space. These interactions further the knowledge and appropriate use of Kyowa Kirin's products, and further the Company's understanding of unmet medical needs in research and clinical development areas as well as support the product strategy by bringing critical insights into the organization. This individual has direct accountability for the performance of the MSL team. This individual will create and maintain metrics, and business processes and support key strategic, cross-functional projects. This role may also be responsible for temporarily covering vacant territories and performing MSL functions until the position can be filled.

Essential Functions:

Lead North American Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Oncology program.



  • Recruiting, hiring, training, and developing a high-performing MSL team.
  • Develop and implement strategic MSL field/territory plans and objectives in alignment with Medical Affairs and product strategy and oversee the successful execution of these plans.
  • Oversee appropriate and compliant scientific exchange with the external HCP community and clinical trial investigators through robust, fair-balanced, and timely communication of medical and scientific information on disease states and company products.
  • Develop MSL-appropriate goals and objectives and assess processes to track performance and report metrics to the Medical Affairs leadership team.
  • Identify MSL educational needs and contribute to the development of MSL training plans coordinated by Global and KKNA Medical Affairs.
  • Provide appropriate training, mentoring, and coaching to direct reports with respect to scientific knowledge, product knowledge, technical skills, business acumen/planning, compliance, and effective regional management, including frequent field visits with the MSL team; manage individual and team performance.
  • Lead the identification of and interactions with healthcare professionals on a national and regional level including the development of engagement plans.
  • Ensure appropriate representation and discussion of medical and scientific information on the company's products in settings such as advisory boards, presentations to payers, and formulary decision-makers.
  • Direct MSL attendance and coverage at congresses and meetings, including contributing to meeting planning through collaboration with internal stakeholders.
  • Support Speaker Bureau training.
  • Compile, assess, organize, collate, and summarize insights gathered by the MSL team and ensure regular sharing of this feedback with home office to inform actions such as continual improvements to processes and materials, potential business opportunities, research, clinical trials, and product strategy.
  • Participate in and contribute to annual strategic medical planning.
  • Connect with appropriate internal stakeholders to ensure strategic and tactical alignment of the MSL team both within the wider Medical Affairs organization and with other Company departments.
  • Strong team player who is highly collaborative and can effectively and compliantly interface with Commercial and Marketing teams, including commercial field teams, as needed.
  • Aid in training internal colleagues as needed.
  • Develop and maintain scientific, clinical, and therapeutic expertise in the disease states of interest.
  • Ensure and enforce compliance with all regulations, laws, and policies.
  • Manage the overall MSL budget and the administrative aspects of the team.
  • Other duties as needed.


Position Requirements




  • Education



    • Advanced clinical/science degree or health care professional credentials


    Experience



    • Minimum 7 years of field medical or MSL experience. Minimum of 2 years of MSL management experience. Outstanding interpersonal skills, including building strong working relationships, and managing and resolving conflict. Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, listening, and presentation). Results-oriented with respect to team attitude. Team oriented. Works well cross-functionally. Proven track record of success. Current knowledge of all relevant industry, legal, and regulatory compliance guidelines. Commitment to the highest ethical, legal, regulatory, and scientific standards.
    • Technical Skills
    • Proficient in MS Office Suite and Veeva CRM.


    Non-Technical Skills


    Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, meet deadlines, make decisions, and change course of action quickly. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. A strong work ethic is required. Detail-oriented and excellent follow-through. Has the ability to flex and deal with ambiguity in a dynamic, fast-paced, high-growth environment. Has a passion for personal learning and development to be able to grow with the company. Cultural sensitivity and ability to develop consensus within a multinational organization


Physical Requirements:



  • Normal office environment with prolonged sitting and extensive computer work
  • Requires up to 70% travel (primarily domestic with some international travel)

Annualized base salary ranges from $232,000 - $255,000 plus sales incentive; actual salaries will vary and may be above or below this range commensurate with various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, and merit.

This position is eligible for a company car through the Company's FLEET program.
