Summary

Responsible for supporting the daily work of the Saint Xavier University Health Center's Nurse Practitioners and front office staff. Works directly with patients to ensure exemplary patient care.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the Nurse Practitioner by recording the patient's chief complaint, vital signs, weight, and height in the electronic medical records (EHR). Prepare and administer immunizations as directed by the Nurse Practitioner. Collect blood, urine or other laboratory specimens, and prepare them to be sent to an outside laboratory. Complete in-house procedures as directed by the Nurse Practitioner, such as rapid strep tests, rapid influenza tests, ear irrigations and urine dips. Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean, and clean instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies. Collect and input student immunization records. Provide Front desk support as needed; i.e., schedule appointments, adhere to end-of-day balancing procedure, chart preparation, registration process, discharge functions, and collection of fees. Maintain inventory and order medical, lab, vaccines, office supplies and equipment.


Qualifications

High School or equivalent. Graduation from a certified medical assistant program required. One to two years of medical assistant experience in a physician office setting required. Medical terminology required. Strong computer skills and attention to detail required. Medicat or other electronic medical record software experience required. Must demonstrate skills necessary to assist physician in clinic/office with appropriate equipment in a safe manner; and coordinate a variety of administrative duties with limited supervision. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Healthcare provider CPR required with biannual recertification.
