Job Summary This position begins Fall of 2024 South Mountain Community College is seeking an English/ English Humanities/ Creative Writing/ and/or Journalism faculty to work within an award-winning college environment. In this role, you will provide exceptional instruction for students from diverse backgrounds and cultures in all levels of English, English Humanities, Creative Writing, and/or Journalism (depending upon experience and qualifications). As a faculty, you will create a caring and supportive learning environment, ensuring that students are successful and supported throughout their college experience. You'll be responsible for advancing the academic life of the college through participation in co-curricular activities, committee assignments, and professional growth. Your work will foster both student and community engagement. To be successful in this role, you'll need excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as proficiency in using a variety of instructional modalities and methods to engage, support, and assess student academic success and maintain accurate records. You'll be expected to follow all applicable laws, policies, and scholarly best practices to achieve a high-level of excellence within and outside the college classroom. Minimum Qualifications You need a Master's Degree or higher in one of the following fields: English, Rhetoric, Composition, Literature, Creative Writing, English Education, Journalism New Media Studies, Teaching English as a Second Language, Linguistics OR you need Master's Degree in any field with 18 graduate-level credits in these prefixes/subjects: ENG, ENH, LIT, ENGL, RHET, WTG, COMP, CRW, LIN, JRN, ESL, BLE, BME, Rhetoric, Literature, Critical Thinking, Composition, Literacy, Linguistics, Writing OR you need Master's Degree in any field with 18 graduate-level credits in courses with these keywords: Candidates making an application on the basis of graduate coursework in the following areas must consult with the English Instructional Council to verify applicability HUM, SPC, LAE, EDU, HED, IDS, RDG, Culture, Language, Critical Theory, Critical Analysis, Reading Desired Qualifications A. Master's degree or higher in Creative Writing, Journalism, or Literacy. B. Demonstrated expertise creating inclusive teaching and learning experiences designed to foster an authentic learning environment and assess knowledge transfer C. Demonstrated expertise using a variety of instructional technologies to enhance instruction, engage all students in the teaching and learning endeavor, maintain accurate records, including experience utilizing a learning management system D. Demonstrated community engagement, such as leading department initiatives, college and/or district committees, campus programs, student clubs, high school outreach, and /or community partnerships E.
