THE POSITION Join our team at District 9-0 by applying for the Work Zone Traffic Control Specialist position within our traffic unit at the Department of Transportation. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this role, the employee is responsible for carrying out various technical tasks related to traffic engineering, specifically focusing on temporary traffic control on highways. This includes carefully examining highway design plans and permit applications to ensure that the temporary traffic control methods being proposed are appropriate and effective. Additionally, the employee conducts thorough reviews and consultations on work zone traffic control, keeping track of the results and conducting after-action reviews when necessary to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and publications. Furthermore, the employee takes the lead in developing comprehensive work zone traffic control training programs for both internal staff and external partners. Ultimately, the main objective of this position is to prioritize the safety of both the traveling public and the workforce deployed on the roadway. Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Hollidaysburg. Week 1 office days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Week 2 office days are Tuesday and Wednesday. The remaining 5 days within the pay period are eligible for Telework; pending there are no concerns or issues that require office time or a field visit. Adjustments or exchanges of office or telework days can be coordinated through the supervisor. Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year as a Traffic Control Specialist Trainee; or Two years as a Traffic Control Technician; or One year of experience in traffic control work; and a Bachelor's Degree in mathematics, civil engineering, or a closely related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
