The Division of Student Affairs is the hub of student life and well-being at The University of Texas at Austin. The team inspires all students - undergraduate, graduate and professional - to live the Longhorn life through its uniquely-designed programs, spaces and resources.

Purpose

Develops, executes and delivers high-impact, engaging digital and print content to elevate awareness of the Division of Student Affairs. Supports the Division's strategic communications and storytelling goals through multimedia and print communications and marketing projects, under the direction of the director of communication operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develops versatile content for a variety of communications channels to highlight the impact of the Division's many programs, spaces and resources.Researches, writes, captures and proofs content forsocial media, publications, websites, newsletters, graphic designs, flyers, presentation slide decks, promotional videos, etc. Illustrates Division's impact on students through dynamic multimedia storytelling. Engages a variety of audiences including students, faculty, staff, parents, donors, alumni and other partners. Represents the Division at various events, programs and meetings. Assists the director of communication operations on reaching strategic communications and marketing goals.

  • Manages the creation of tactical content roadmaps, and executes communications campaigns (print and digital, including social media) in partnership with department communicators. Monitors social media channels for questions, comments and conversations, and actively engages with audiences. Utilizes analytics reports (social media, website, email marketing) to help provide strategic direction concerning improvement of visibility and reach. Stays up-to-date on best practices and trends in emerging technologies to help generate editorial ideas. Identifies opportunities for improving and enhancing the Division's visibility and reach, including through new tactics and digital campaigns.

  • Coordinates announcements and highlighted events via Division channels. Manages databases and inventory of digital assets, images and videos, and follows up with Division communicators and university partners to gather new items. Prepares promotional materials for events and programs. Incorporates University-wide campaigns into the Division's editorial strategy. Follows UT Austin brand guidelines. Helps manage Division website content, digital strategy and design. Assists with meeting preparation, set up, and tasks during and following various Division meetings.

  • Supports the production and distribution of Division newsletters and messages, from content submission to email distribution, working with the director of communication operations. Gathers and organizes content from departments, proofreads and edits content, manages content layout process on websites and email marketing software. Coordinates with Division communicators on content and photos when needed.

  • Assists with handling media inquiries, maintaining database of media requests and tracking media placements. Responds to breaking news and deadlines in a timely fashion. Helps manage crisis communication. Monitors media for rapid responses.

  • Help supervise student employees to support the priorities and projects of the Division, office and departments. Serves on committees as assigned. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism or a related field. Professional demeanor, punctuality, reliability, attention to detail and accuracy in all phases of work. Experience photographing events for use in social media, and other communications and marketing collateral. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to adeptly navigate situations with limited information or details. Ability to adapt to changing work environments and learn quickly. Ability to work independently, problem solve and think critically. Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment while delivering on deadlines. Ability to work collaboratively with Division, campus and external colleagues, students, families, alumni, donors and others.Ability to maintainconfidentiality. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.Proficient in Mac and PC platforms.Experience using Microsoft Office software; proficiency in Word, familiarity with PowerPoint and Excel. Basic photography skills and familiarity with digital cameras/photography. Basic videography and video editing skills. Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere) and Canva.Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

2-5 years of professional experience in marketing, communications, journalism or a related field. Experience in planning, writing, editing and production of newsletters, collateral, and other digital and print publications. Experience using email marketing software (examples: Emma, Constant Contact, MailChimp or similar platform).

Salary Range

$53,000

Working Conditions

  • This position is based in Austin, TX, on the UT Austin Main Campus. This position is not eligible for remote work.

  • May work around standard office conditions.

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

  • Some nights and weekends may be required for crisis communications and special events.
