What are the essential duties of a Janitorial Supervisor?



  • Supervision: Lead and oversee a team of custodial employees stationed across diverse locations within the building.
  • Relationship Building: Foster and sustain effective working relationships with staff, officials, and the public, leveraging exceptional customer service abilities.
  • Facility Operations: Strategize, organize, guide, staff, and manage the operational aspects of the facility to ensure optimal maintenance and upkeep.
  • Objective Alignment: Uphold and advance facility objectives, standards, and benchmarks, while harmonizing with overarching company goals.
  • Scheduling Coordination: Coordinate and manage work schedules meticulously to guarantee the punctual execution of maintenance duties and building preservation.
  • Workflow Management: Formulate and administer workflow charts for projects, navigating both short-term and long-term objectives.


  • Supply Chain Oversight: Supervise the procurement of supplies essential to facility operations.
  • Staff Development: Train, oversee, and appraise custodial staff, offering expert guidance on the correct use and maintenance of chemicals and equipment.
  • Security Enforcement: Enforce security protocols diligently in designated zones.
  • Employee Guidance: Address and advise custodial employees when necessary, encompassing coaching and disciplinary measures.
  • Performance Assessment: Execute comprehensive annual performance assessments for custodial staff.
  • Facility Security: Supervise the opening, closing, and security protocols of facilities as the situation requires.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain thorough records of accomplished tasks and assignments.
  • Recycling Management: Oversee the proper collection of recycling bins throughout the facility, collaborating with recycling centers.
  • On-Site Presence: Regular physical presence and on-site attendance are fundamental to this role, as remote work is not viable.


What are the educational requirements & qualifications?



  • High School Diploma Required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in a related field
  • Minimum of four (4) years working in a related field and supervising 20+ personnel
  • Experience working with people who have disabilities.


What is the preferred knowledge?



  • Extensive working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building maintenance
  • Knowledge of proper hazardous chemical disposal
  • Knowledge of floor care and carpet care
  • Knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions

What are the physical demands associated with this position?

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the incumbent will have to sit, stand and or walk for the majority of the shift. The incumbent is required to regularly talk or hear while fulfilling the duties of the job. The incumbent may have to lift up to 20 pounds regularly and push and or pull carts with up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Environmental Demands:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations will be made. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the environment can be loud depending on what machinery is in use.
