DESCRIPTION

The IGM Genomics Center at the University of California, San Diego, is a core research facility overseen by the Institute for Genomic Medicine. IGM Genomics Center provides a variety of services, including sequencing, library preparation and sequencing on Illumina's HiSeq2500 and MiSeq platforms.

The mission of the IGM Genomics Facility is to provide UCSD researchers, as well as researchers in the greater UC community, high quality standard, cutting-edge, and custom genomics services as well as consultation on experimental design and training/education about genomic methods.

Under supervision of PI and lab members, the incumbent will perform general lab tasks (unpacking supplies, maintaining organization of supplies, keeping records), manage lab safety as required by campus, coordinate sample intake and associated record keeping, perform basic sample quality control experiments, and generate sequencing libraries.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Theoretical knowledge in biological sciences, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry or related field.

  • Knowledge of genomic research techniques including ability to keep clear and accurate records.

  • Ability to interact effectively with faculty, academics, students, and staff including those of diverse ethnicity, culture, and foreign nationals and be able to present information to customers in a clear and concise manner.

  • Ability to read protocols and execute under supervision.

  • Ability to adjust to rapidly changing environment.

  • Ability to multi-task as dictated by the work load and customer demands, while keeping clear and accurate records to update and maintain computerized relational databases.

  • Ability to review information, read protocols and to apply new techniques.

  • Ability to follow established safety regulations, as they pertain to Biohazards.

  • Demonstrated successful, positive interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills using tact, diplomacy, discretion, and flexibility with diverse personalities and situations. Skill to interact effectively with faculty, academicians, students, and staff including those of diverse ethnicity, culture, and foreign nationals. Skills to present information clearly and concisely.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in biological sciences.

  • Knowledge of operating Illumina HiSeq and/or Miseq instruments.

  • Experience working in a high-throughput Genomics Laboratory.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

  • Available to work variable hours if needed, occasionally.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $53,766 - $64,143 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $25.75 - $30.72

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
