Job Description
The Clinical Manager has 24-hour responsibility for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the hospital and the nursing department and their effect on patient care in a designated unit. This position has authority to make decisions on that unit in the areas of patient care, human resource, and financial management. The position is responsible for unit's operations. This position demonstrates superior communication skills with all internal and external customers and exhibits a high degree of integrity, a solid character, and sound judgment. Responsibilities Assists the divisional director in development, implementation and evaluation of on going service programs that assure quality nursing and patient care programs consistent with hospital mission. Performs/participates in assessment of effectiveness of patient care programs as assigned. Monitors/maintains unit compliance with regulatory, accrediting and hospital policy for patient services, and environmental and personnel safety. Monitors the staff's understanding of established emergency, infection control, and/or universal precautions procedures as evidenced by CQI reports, incident follow ups, staff meeting minutes and direct observation by divisional director/designee. Oversees quality improvement program which monitors and evaluates critical aspects of care. Collaborates with the Clinical Quality Coordinator in the development of quality improvement initiatives. Ensures quality results are disseminated to stall as evidenced by staff meeting minutes. Assesses need for personal growth and development and takes the initiative in seeking opportunities to meet this need. Shares information obtained at continuing educational programs with peers by verbal and/or written report to division operations. Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow through and communication. Evaluates effectiveness of corrective action. Consults with patients/families through primary nurse request, direct family request, and/or direct assessment of patient/family response to hospitalization. Assesses patient/significant other survey responses regarding nursing care and services. Responsible for on going development of staff and unit specific patient care programs. Collaborates with the CQC and Educator to plan for orientation of new personnel and unit specific education/in services. Responsible for effective and efficient fiscal management of department operations to ensure proper utilization of organizational and financial resources. Effectively utilizes resources within established budget; notifies director of all variances anticipated, or occurred, to maintain department services. Manages human resources to assure quality services and promote positive employee relations. Maintains effective and appropriate staffing by monitoring employee turnover, overtime, and absenteeism. Develops performance goals/objectives with each staff member to promote maximum productivity, proficiency and professional growth, as evidenced by written goals on performance appraisals. Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff. Communication with staff is effective, resolving conflicts which may hamper relations and productivity, as observed by manager. Uses hospital communications resources to inform internal and external audiences of departmental news/achievements/policies.Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization. May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters. Qualifications Minimum Education
