WORK SHIFT: Second Shift (United States of America)
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Set-Up Tech I takes full ownership of learning the various Extrusion and Thermoforming processes in their assigned area. The main responsibilities are maintaining optimum daily performance, run efficiency, and repeatability of all molds and machinery pertaining to the Thermoforming and Extrusion process. The Set-Up Tech I will learn and demonstrate how to perform accurate, efficient mold set-ups and start-ups, while maintaining high level machine output and utilization. The Set-Up Tech I must have a technical background and an aptitude to apply processing/troubleshooting skills, have the ability of attaining the skill set of a Set-Up Tech II, and gain the understanding of documented run parameters for department molds/materials. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Safely performs all Set-Up Tech responsibilities including mold preparation, mold removal, mold installation, and secondary equipment set-up.
- Utilizes harness on the fall protection tether track system.
- Efficiently installs sheet guides and secondary equipment such as auto bagger, box make and any other equipment.
- Performs efficient start-ups of Extruder and Thermoform machines as required by daily schedules.
- Maintains maximum utilization/up-time on machinery in assigned area including Extruder machine and Thermoform machines.
- Monitors all running jobs daily for adherence to department standards including part quality, cycle time, and part weight conditions.
- Maintains accurate running parameters for the Extruder process.
- Produces Extrusion sheeting that is of the highest quality and meets all required specs including sheet dimensions.
- Learns and applies proper troubleshooting for any processing issues that are abnormal or outside of standard operating procedures.
- Works closely with supervisor, Mold Shop, and Quality Assurance department.
- Learns and demonstrates proper mold changeover techniques.
- Communicates and asks appropriate questions from others on proper set-up and start-up procedures.
- Assists in identification, recommendation, and implementation of new procedures to improve department safety, efficiency, and profitability.
- Ensures that the production area is kept clean and orderly at all times.
- Maintain reliable and consistent attendance, including being punctual, and dependable in order to meet the needs of the department and the organization.
- Execute each essential duty satisfactorily in order to perform job successfully.
- Follows all safety procedures required in work area, wears PPE as needed, attends all safety meetings, and reports safety issues regarding equipment or unsafe/hazardous conditions.
- Performs effectively as a team member, able to work well with others, open to receive and give feedback, and treats everyone with respect.
- Takes ownership of own work and behavior, accepts accountability for own actions, encourages solutions, and communicates status of work/projects.
- Follow all department quality standards/criteria. Raise concerns and issues to immediate manager.

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or four to five years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and record keeping of test/run data.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Forklift experience
- Previous mechanical training or experience
- Previous extrusion and thermoforming plastics manufacturing experience
