Excess and Surplus Lines Underwriter

You will be in a senior-level role that supports underwriting operations. This role shifts to either expert underwriting and risk evaluation or project work that improves the efficiency of the underwriting operations area. You will develop metrics and analyze information to make recommendations that impact profitability trends. You will report to the Sr. Manager, Insurance Operations.

Position Compensation Range:

$76,000.00 - $125,000.00

Primary Accountabilities

  • Underwrite and quote each risk to determine eligibility, coverage, and pricing for new and renewal business
  • Examines and evaluate documents such as applications, inspection reports, MVRS, financial reports, claims history and any other pertinent information to determine degree of risk, underwriting and appropriate market.
  • Accepts, prices and quotes insurance within underwriting authority or with interaction of company underwriter
  • Markets and negotiates underwriting referrals to company brokerage facilities
  • Monitor key metrics to formulate corrective action impacting new business hit, renewal retention, premium growth, and loss ratio
  • Lead, train, and develop Assistant Underwriters
  • Build and fosters relationships with agency partners
  • Demonstrate a strong customer focus through understanding customer's needs and expectations and implements departments service standards.
  • Assists with various projects as requested by management.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements

  • .Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service.
  • Demonstrated experience with quality or continuous process improvement project or programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of process definition, measurement and improvement programs, including tracking, analyzing, reporting and problem solving.
  • Solid knowledge of databases and analytical tools.
  • Demonstrated experience working in an underwriting, claims, brokerage or services role in specific product line.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of underwriting and services systems and processes.
  • CPCU, AU or comparable designations preferred

Additional Job Description

  • Prior Excess Surplus Lines Commercial Underwriting experience preferred (3-5 years)
  • Prior experience maintaining and growing a book of business (3-5 years)

In this flex office/home role, you will work a minimum of 10 days per month from one of the following office locations: Madison, WI 53783; Boston, MA 02110; Chicago, IL 60601*; Phoenix, AZ 85034
