Reserch Program Assistant II

The Behavioral Pharmacology Research Unit is seeking aResearch Program Assistant IIwhowill assist in experimental research sessions for residential/non-residential pharmacological research protocols as well as perform and assist in data handling functions required by research protocols.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Input, organize, edit and verify data collected in test sessions.
  • Responsible for maintaining a current backup of research data and ensuring the security and confidentiality of that data.
  • Provide graphic representations of research data according to the needs of the investigator or research assistant.
  • Participate in BPRU sponsored services including educational lectures, computer classes and community events.
  • Assist in recruitment of volunteers for outpatient research protocols. Such recruitment may involve phone as well as in-person screenings.
  • Assist in running testing protocols within a laboratory setting and familiarize themselves with the details of session and the origination of research data.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to interact with faculty, staff, and research teams, in clinical programs, on educational outreach initiative.
  • Attention to detail, good proofreading skills and excellent written communication variety of forms, print material, website content, speeches, and publicity materials.
  • Excellent oral communication skills to deal effectively within and outside the department and to carry out protocols with human volunteers of diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of graphic design and typography.
  • Basic to Intermediate computer programs with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher.
  • Excellent organizational skills to work effectively in an environment that requires balancing multiple assignments and verification of data sets.
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels and from diverse cultures.
  • Must be able to make decisions and act independently while keeping investigator informed.

Specific Physical Requirements

  • Able to sit in a normal seated position for extended periods.
  • Able to reach by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
  • Finger dexterity required, able to manipulate objects with fingers rather than entire hand(s) or arm(s), e.g., use of computer keyboard.
  • Communication skills using the spoken word.
  • Ability to see within normal parameters.
  • Ability to hear within normal range.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Two years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Starting Salary Range: $15.50 - $26.00 HRLY ($32,240 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
