Job Summary The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the payroll functions associated with assigned campuses, which includes preparation, processing, and record-keeping, while ensuring compliance with federal and state agencies. As a collaborative team, we work closely with other departments for proper flow and maintenance of the in-house process. Bi-weekly payroll is processed within PeopleSoft 9.2, utilizing Payroll for North America, Time and Labor, and Absence Management modules. Our department is committed to working together as a team in a professional and fun environment. Essential Functions 50% - Prepares, processes, and distributes assigned college payrolls; advises management concerning payroll processes by applying policies, procedures and governmental regulations including FLSA, IRS, SSA, ASRS and Arizona Revised Statutes; coordinates work flow of assigned payrolls 20% - Verifies pay documents and calculations submitted by district departments, calculates and processes deviations from standard pay; sets up and verifies garnishments and tax levies 15% - Analyzes, researches and resolves payroll issues; coordinates with other departments as needed 10% - Works with Human Resource Management System technical processes and systems; acts as a technical advisor for payroll related matters; maintains high degree of knowledge on technical aspects of payroll 5% - Responds to inquiries from employees and outside agencies including internal and external auditors and governmental agencies; prepares written correspondence as needed; maintains a high degree of fiduciary responsibility; other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of fiscal support experience related to the area of assignment. OR High School or GED and four (4) years of fiscal support experience related to the area of assignment. Desired Qualifications A. Five (5) or more years of full payroll processing experience (including, but not limited to, data entry, overpayments, spreadsheets, multi-state taxes, pay adjustments, termination payouts, contracts, and non U.S. citizen taxation) B. Experience working with federal and state guidelines, including tax regulations, calculations, and payroll reporting C. Experience working with an electronic time and attendance system D. Experience working with nonresident alien requirements, status, and taxation E. Experience working with PeopleSoft Human Capital Management System F. Experience working with the Arizona State Retirement System G.
