Job Description:

Job Summary

A Senior Software Engineer's role is to design, develop, and maintain our software application. They use their creativity and technical skills to help solve new and ongoing problems for an organization. They partner with our product teams to deliver on our roadmap, maintain current platform, and create new solutions for our customers. As a senior role, they are also expected to help drive team collaboration and be a mentor for more junior team members.

This position is for the team, and will design, develop, maintain, and support Pluralsight's Pando Design System, where we explore and solve problems at the intersection of design and engineering. We are building a framework-agnostic, forward-thinking design system to support the unique needs of our product teams. Pando is focused on flexibility, accessibility, and performance., and its layered libraries enable utilization with any Javascript framework. We offer consuming teams as much or as little flexibility as needed.

Duties/responsibilities

  • Understands, practices, and advocates for front-end design principles and practices.

  • Contributes to and enhances the libraries that make up the Pando Design System.

  • Champions code quality, scalability, and maintainability

  • Focuses on developer experience for others on the team to reduce friction where possible by streamlining build, test, and deployment workflows.

  • Creates and maintains documentation to support the usage of both the Pando Design System and its code base.

  • Lead the software development lifecycle (SDLC), including implementation, testing, and deployment while working on software teams (pairs, mobs) to collaboratively develop, deploy and maintain software platform projects.

  • Partner with Engineering Managers and Principal Engineers to optimize your team's development processes. Helps increase team and individual productivity, reduce errors and defects, and reduce complexity and operational load.

  • Create safety mechanisms for your team which ensure the team's code is of high quality, easy to maintain, flexible for future expansion, and adheres to best practices and coding standards.

  • Create friction free development experiences for your team. You focus on opportunities to reduce the time required to setup and configure development environments and tighten feedback loops by streamlining build, test, and deployment workflows.

  • Partner with product teams in product maintenance by resolving bugs, implementing updates to dependencies, and other various improvements as needed to ensure that our product continues to function as expected.

  • Partner with the team in creating and maintaining team documentation including user manuals and other related materials that describe the software architecture and functionality that your team supports.

Minimum qualifications/skills

  • Extensive experience with multiple frontend frameworks, CSS preprocessors, and CSS-in-JS solutions, especially in the implementation of larger complex systems.

  • Extensive experience with multiple programming languages, paradigms, and runtimes especially in the implementation of larger complex systems

  • You have experience delivering software frequently, and building robust deployment pipelines.

  • Proven track record building software with one or more technologies in our tech stack: React.

  • Experience working collaboratively with Agile or Kanban development teams.

  • Can provide architectural, strategic, and scale recommendations for both frontend and backend development

  • Good communication skills, ability to partner with product and design, and collaborate on multi-functional teams - a strong collaborator, a trusted teammate, and are skilled at resolving and working through different ideas.

Preferred qualifications/skills

  • Ability to consider broad architectural implications in solutions; have shipped and supported general library code for a broad user base.

  • Foundational understanding and experience with topics related to platform scale, security, availability, deployment and operations.

  • Ability and willingness to work with multiple tech stacks simultaneously

  • Experience mentoring others

  • Ability to discuss sophisticated topics with both technical and non-technical audiences

Education and experience requirements

  • Requires a minimum of 8 years of related or equivalent experience; or 6+ years with an advanced degree.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in an office (or home office) environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Sedentary work. Repetitive work. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
