Job Summary/Basic Function
Bay de Noc Community College is a student-focused, multi-campus institution serving the higher education needs of the south-central Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The College is an accredited institution committed to continuous quality improvement. Bay College takes pride in providing a quality education to transfer and occupational students at two campuses, online, and at other course delivery sites

The primary purpose of this position is to support student success in Bay College Boot Camps, prepare students for college, and create an environment for English and Math skill development. The Boot Camp Advisor plays an integral role in the Summer Boot Camps and will assist with the following tasks on a daily basis: Boot Camp recruitment; receive student applications; assess student need for support; coordinate and facilitate career and college preparation workshops; arrange food, supplies and resources; provide one-on-one student support; support instructors providing English and Math Academic sessions; and gather and enter data to report outcomes. This is a temporary, part-time, grant funded position that begins in May and ends in August, 2024.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree
  • Experience assessing student needs and developing plan to address
  • Knowledge and ability to work with a wide range of students
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organization and coordination skills
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with students, and community partners
  • Experience utilizing databases and entering data in a timely manner

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in social work or related field
  • Academic advising work experience
  • Career preparation and/or college preparation workshop facilitation experience
  • Ability or knowledge in working with student information systems
  • Experience providing support to high school students
  • Experience working with a diverse population

Travel requirement
This position is primarily responsible for providing in person support to students and instructor participating in Iron Mountain sessions. This position will also support in person sessions in Escanaba and online sessions. Position can be based on Escanaba or Iron Mountain campus for this reason. Must be able to drive to Escanaba or Iron Mountain based on where located.
Job Duties


Job Duty

  • Assist with promotion, outreach, and recruitment of boot camp participants
  • Guide and support students through the summer boot camp program application
  • Facilitate one-to-one and small group advisory lessons and large group workshops on college and career readiness
  • Assess student needs for support, make referrals, and provide support
  • Build strong relationships with an assigned caseload of students
  • Monitor student progress, maintain student records and develop applicable academic plans
  • Ensure consistent data collection to monitor the impact of student programming
  • Assists with supporting diversity, equity, and a community of belonging
  • Promote individual student success
  • Ensure compliance (fiscal, academic, safety, local/state/federal) guidelines are satisfied
  • Other duties as assigned
