Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Senior Battery Algorithm Engineer to drive SOC/SOH estimation for iron-air batteries. As part of our battery algorithms team, you will contribute to establishing an optimal framework for state estimation models and algorithms in collaboration with Controls & Firmware teams. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and be part of the growth of a fast-moving company with breakthrough technology and an incredible mission!

What you'll do:
  • Identify the most effective feature signals and deliver a framework for SOC/SOH estimation algorithms in the forms of lookup tables, control-oriented models (equivalent circuit, electrochemical, thermal, aging), and calibration methodologies.

  • Develop customized test protocols at cell and module level to characterize and validate models and algorithms

  • Determine sensor requirements for optimized battery estimation & control and quantify SOC/SOH estimation error and confidence level

  • Collaborate closely with the Controls & Firmware team to define key requirements for battery management system (BMS) software and support implementation of state estimators.

  • Support and drive the definition of technological roadmaps for iron-air battery algorithms and contribute to company's strategic directions regarding state of the art algorithms

What you'll bring:
  • M.S in engineering with 2+ years of experience or Ph.D. in engineering with experience in battery modeling and/or controls

  • Solid understanding of battery modeling, estimation, and control methods

  • Demonstrated experience in controls oriented models (e.g. equivalent circuit models, reduced-order physics-based models such as SPM/SPMe, thermal models) and degradation models

  • Expertise in Matlab/Simulink and COMSOL

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Self-starter and multi-task oriented in fast paced environment
