Position Summary:
This
position teaches our Stagecraft class, which uses the production needs in each
semester to teach students basic carpentry, paint, rigging, prop building, and
electrics in addition to proper theatrical production process. The needs of the
course should fully encompass the successful build of the Theatre Program's
current production for that semester. Additionally, the instructor acts, for
all intents and purposes, as the production's Technical Director with the
students acting as their crew. In this way, they are responsible for technical
drawings, budget, work schedule, and a full successful build. This position is
on campus and teaches face-to-face.
Essential Functions:
- Functions
include, but are not limited to, organizing and training students in
appropriate skills and safety measures, maintaining attendance records,
fulfilling all technical director requirements (including but not limited to
drawings, budget, work schedule, attending production meetings and appropriate
tech rehearsals), creative problem solving, and submitting grades.
- Additionally, this position will regularly collaborate with the Head of
Facilities of the Jim Wise Theatre and the Theatre Technician.
- Both of these
positions aid the Stagecraft instructor with duties such as material purchases,
additional labor/personnel requirements, and general help with the workings of
the facility and the build itself.
- The ideal candidate is a curious and
creative problem solver, organized, and highly communicative.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Bachelors in Theatre or equivalent experience.
- At least two years experience teaching and/or leading/mentoring younger
production crews.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least two years professional experience in the field of
technical direction is preferred
- MFA in Technical Direction
-Prior teaching experience at the collegiate level is a plus.
