The anticipated salary range for this role is between $78,000.00and $145,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

SUMMARY:

As a Software Engineer - SRE this role will be responsible for the production applications reliability. Responsibilities include setting up and configuring monitoring systems like Splunk Observability Cloud(SignalFx), Synthetic Monitoring, On-Call, and responding to events, incidents and changes originated from internal or vendor applications. Investigate incidents and problems and determine root cause. Will use ServiceNow, Jira, Confluence, Splunk, Azure Monitor, Google Cloud Monitoring, etc. tools for various activities. Create, execute, and maintain DR plans and production runbooks

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Administration of Splunk Observability Cloud platform (formerly known as SignalFx).
  • Instrumentation of Java, NodeJS, React based applications for APM, IM, RUM, etc.
  • Introduce enterprise capabilities, tools, and innovation improving availability in a multi-cloud ecosystem by evolving observability, monitoring, logging, CI/CD integration (performance, smoke, regression, functional, chaos and environment propagation through automatic deployments)
  • Introduce continuous improvement, standardization/automation, capabilities to conduct destructive and resiliency testing.
  • Build and manage systems, infrastructure, and applications through automation.
  • Deploy, support, and monitor new and existing services, platforms, and application stacks.
  • Engage in improving the whole lifecycle of services from inception through deployment, operations, and refinement.
  • Provide hands-on technical expertise during service impacting events.
  • Collaborate with other engineers on code reviews, internal infrastructure improvements and process enhancements.
  • Use scalability testing to measure, tune and optimize system performance.
  • Automate key SRE metrics and IT Service Operations processes including customer impact, % availability of critical business flows, SLO/SLI adherence, error budget, automate incident process for IT Service Operations through data integrating with unified communications, alerting/notification systems.
  • Participate in periodic 24x7 on-call duties.
  • Share support responsibilities for critical applications and customer journeys onboarded to SRE including remediation of issues through Agile, conduct blameless postmortems, root cause analysis, and introduce continuous improvement solving problems with the goal of no repeats.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
  • 3+ years of experience as a Site Reliability Engineer.
  • 3+ years of experience with one or more Agile tools used for tracking user stories or backlogs, such as JIRA.
  • Consistent track record of troubleshooting and resolving issues in live production environments and implementing strategies to eliminate them.
  • Experience with Observability/Monitoring technologies like Splunk Observability Cloud (formerly known as SignalFx)
  • Driven approach to continually improving service levels.
  • Experience with one or more Cloud Platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS)
  • Experience with Container technologies: Kubernetes, Docker, AKS
  • Experience setting up monitoring in infrastructure, applications, and database.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience with Cloud technologies specially with Azure or GCP
  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization, including management.
  • Strong team or technical leadership experience
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Incident Management System experience
  • Configuration Management Tools experience
  • Experience with Agile Scrum (Daily Standup, Sprint Planning and Sprint Retrospective meetings) and Kanban.
