Assistant Dean for Career Development - Delaware Law School

Widener University is currently seeking an Assistant Dean for Career Development at the Delaware Law School. Reporting to the Dean of the Law School, the Assistant Dean for Career Development is an integral member of the senior administration. The Assistant Dean is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive strategy to support law students' and alumni career and professional development goals. This role also provides key career services for paralegal, LL.M., and Masters in Jurisprudence students and graduates.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:



  • Oversees all employer outreach, on/off campus interviewing (OCI), job bank, job fairs, professional development offerings, student services, and administrative responsibilities in the Career Development Office (CDO).
  • Identifies and performs outreach to potential new employers for participation in recruiting programs
  • Trains staff on use of Symplicity's job bank and OCI
  • Sets up OCI sessions in Symplicity in conjunction with Administrative Support Specialist
  • Manages timely delivery of student application materials
  • Develops and executes the promotion/communication of OCI, job bank, job fairs, workshops to students through tailored email communications
  • Engages in hiring duties. Supervises and performs evaluations of exempt and non-exempt staff including an Associate Director and Administrative Support Specialist
  • Plans and sets priorities for CDO budget
  • Networks with local, regional, and national organizations and associations to increase the visibility of the law school and job opportunities
  • Collaborates with private, public interest, government, judicial, and corporate employers to bring cutting-edge programming to students and to expand student access to legal employers
  • Oversees the execution of a 1L mentoring program
  • Drives the DEI focus through wide dissemination of external diversity - related workshops, webinars, fellowships, job fairs.
  • Provides career development expertise/training/resources to student bar association groups as requested
  • Develops and updates online career skill development resources.
  • Stays abreast of legal industry trends and boosts Law School visibility through high level participation in the National Association for Law Placement (NALP) and the Greater Philadelphia Area Law School Consortium (GPALS)
  • Increases Law School visibility through speaking and training engagements locally, regionally, and nationally on a variety of legal industry or coaching trends.
  • Creates innovative programming responsive to market trends and knowledge of the legal industry
  • Provide direct career counseling, resume/cover letter/mock interview preparation, and coaching services to students and alumni
  • Oversees the gathering, compilation, submission, and storing of graduate employment data. Ensures annual compliance with ABA employment protocol and NALP guidelines
  • Completes the compilation and reporting of all statistical data including, but not limited to, U.S. News & World Report and The Princeton Review
  • Participates and/or provides significant support to internal law school committees and strategic planning teams
  • Manages relationship with Symplicity vendor
  • Stays abreast of and assesses the use of technological advancements/career platforms to create greater efficiencies


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:



  • An advanced degree (JD preferred) and at least five years of law school career development management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ABA Standards and regulation related to career development, along with knowledge and/or experience completing ABA employment questionnaires.
  • Strong organizational, management and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact effectively across diverse and multiple internal and external constituencies including faculty, staff, students, employers, alumni, and various agencies and institutions
  • Superior interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills
  • Must be organized, flexible, and able to handle several tasks simultaneously


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS:



  • Travel required to build relationships with employers
  • Standing for prolonged periods of time at recruitment events
  • Lifting and carrying marketing materials to recruitment events and presentation
  • Frequent night, early morning and weekend hours as needed to achieve recruitment goals
