Assistant Dean for Admissions - Delaware Law School

Widener University is currently seeking an Assistant Dean for Admissions at the Delaware Law School. Reporting to the Dean of the Law School, the Assistant Dean for Admissions is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the admissions and recruitment process and plays a critical role in shaping the law school's student body by recruiting and selecting qualified candidates who align with the institution's mission, values, and academic standards.

The Assistant Dean will be a member of the Dean's Senior Leadership Team and will supervise all admissions staff. The successful candidate will be a seasoned admissions professional who has experience developing and leading the successful implementation of program marketing, recruitment, prospect and applicant communication plans, admission policies, all admissions functions from inquiry stage through enrollment, and scholarship strategies that advance enrollment goals and net tuition revenue.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:



  • Admissions Strategy and Planning

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive admissions strategy aligned with the Law School's goals and mission
    • Collaborate with the Dean and other senior leaders to set annual enrollment goals and objectives
    • Ensure all processes, strategies, and policies comply with ABA Standards and LSAC admissions best practices.


  • Application Review and Selection

    • Lead the Admissions Committee in reviewing applications, evaluating candidate credentials, and making admissions decisions
    • Ensure a fair and unbiased admissions process that promotes diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging


  • Recruitment and Outreach

    • Develop and execute comprehensive recruitment and communication plans to attract a diverse pool of qualified applicants
    • Represent the Law School at recruitment events, law fairs, and other outreach activities
    • Develop and steward relationships with regional and national undergraduate institution pre-law advisors and career development professionals
    • Lead and manage integrated advertising efforts to expand the applicant pool
    • Liaison with University Relations team to optimize the Law School brand and messaging; collaborate to develop, design, and produce high impact marketing materials
    • Develop and implement yield activities to optimize enrollment of diverse and competitive applicants


  • Data Analysis and Reporting

    • Collect and analyze data to track trends and assess effectiveness of recruitment strategies
    • Prepare regular first year enrollment reports for the Dean and other University Leaders and Stakeholders
    • Prepare responses to compliance and interest surveys, including ABA site visit and annual questionnaires, US News & World Report Annual Questionnaire, Princeton Review Questionnaire, NALP Annual Questionnaire and various LSAC generated surveys
    • Establish office procedures and staff training to ensure data integrity and accurate reporting


  • Scholarship Planning

    • Collaborate with the Dean, University Leaders and external consultants to develop a scholarship awarding model that aligns with the Law School's enrollment goals, mission, and values
    • Collaborate with the Financial Aid Office to ensure timely scholarship and financial aid offers for admitted students


  • Admissions Staff Management

    • Supervise and mentor all admissions staff
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide professional development ideas and opportunities


  • Budgetary

    • Oversee and manage Admissions Office operational budget
    • Ensure integrity of all admissions related expenditures




Secondary responsibilities:



  • Law School and University Committee work as assigned
  • Member of the Law School Leadership Team


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:



  • An advanced degree (JD preferred) and at least five years of progressively responsible law school admissions and enrollment management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ABA Standards and regulation related to admissions, along with knowledge and or experience completing ABA site visit and annual questionnaires
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in the admissions process and advancing a campus culture where all its people feel valued
  • Strong organizational, management and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact effectively across diverse and multiple internal and external constituencies including faculty, staff, students, applicants, alumni, and various agencies and institutions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of innovative recruitment tools
  • Superior interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of integrated advertising, public relations, and marketing practices
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills
  • Willingness to engage in frequent domestic travel throughout the country for recruitment purposes
  • Must be organized, flexible, and able to handle several tasks simultaneously


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS:



  • Extensive travel required primarily during fall recruitment season
  • Standing for prolonged periods of time at recruitment events
  • Lifting and carrying marketing materials to recruitment events and presentation
  • Frequent night, early morning and weekend hours as needed to achieve recruitment goals
