Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking a dynamic and talented Highway Engineer to join our Safety Team in our Raleigh, North Carolina office. As a member of the Safety Team, the selected candidate will support our clients' efforts to save lives and prevent injuries from motor vehicle crashes.

Responsibilities

    Traffic engineering analysis, including design and operational focused analysis
  • Data analysis
  • Statistical analyses
  • Report writing
  • Communications support

Skills and Attributes

  • Understanding of transportation engineering principles
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivation
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Enthusiasm to learn and ability to take responsibility
  • Proficiency in at least some of the following systems: GIS, statistical software (R, Stata, SPSS, SAS, etc.), programming languages such as Python, Word, Excel, Access, database management, or similar.
  • Understanding of highway safety fundamentals
  • Familiarity with Highway Safety Manual and related tools and techniques

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 0 to 1 years of transportation experience, preferably related to safety
  • 1 to 3 years of transportation experience, preferably related to safety preferred
  • BS in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, or a related field of transportation
  • EIT preferred
