About the Department
The occupational therapy doctorate program ranked No. 1 among public universities in Georgia and is nationally recognized for its research, teaching, and international engagement. The occupational therapy department is housed in the Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions that fosters a collaborative, and inter-professional academic activity. The department offers excellent opportunity to be engaged in nationally funded research that pushes the frontier of health in improving the quality of life for people and populations within the community, state, nation, and the world. Besides the OTD program, opportunity exists to teach in the Ph.D. of health sciences program with an occupational therapy track.
Position Description
The Department of Occupational Therapy in the Byrdine F. Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions at Georgia State University ( GSU) in Atlanta invites applications for a 9-month non-tenure track position at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor starting on August 01, 2024. This individual is responsible for teaching primarily in the OTD curriculum in the general subject area of physical disability, community practice or assistive technology. The position integrates the roles of teacher, researcher and scholarly practitioner within the Occupational Therapy program and provides opportunity for inter-professional collaboration across an array of health care professions and beyond. Successful candidate will also participate fully in the life of the university, the department, the Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions, and in continued development and assists in the accreditation of the program. Minimum requirements for non-tenure (clinical) track include a clinical doctoral degree in occupational therapy with a record of scholarly productivity, demonstrated clinical experience and a commitment to excellence in graduate-level teaching.
Required Experience
Two years Occupational therapy experience in adult, physical disability, and/or mental health/community practice.
Required Education
Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (e.g., OTD, or DrOT) earned by the start date.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
Strong oral and written communication skills, along with organizational and technological proficiency. Experience teaching at the post-secondary level in Physical Disability area.
Familiarity with educational theory and methodology.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations, etc
Certification as an Occupational Therapist by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy ( NBCOT), and eligibility for licensure as an Occupational Therapist in Georgia by the start date.
Pre-Employment Requirements
Background check. Final candidates should be prepared to submit an official transcript of the highest degree completed and the reference for three recommendation letters.
