This role is a part of New Shepard, a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line, the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will participate in cutting-edge parachute technology for the New Shepard human rated space vehicle. This hands-on position involves you in all aspects of design, analysis, build, test, flight operations, and maintenance. In this role, you will provide a wide range of experience for decelerator systems. You will participate in requirements derivation, conceptual and detailed design, system performance modeling, and structural analysis. You will participate in development and qualification testing including planning, execution, data reduction and analysis. You will generate component and assembly drawings and documentation for assembly and testing. Additionally, you will help identify design changes to improve system reliability and reduce operational costs.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in engineering and 3+ years of experience in aerospace and/or decelerator industry.
  • Proven experience in aerospace or related industry in one or more of the following areas:
  • Design and operation of integrated decelerator systems
  • Design use of textiles or flexible structure materials
  • Design use of common aerospace metallic materials and surface treatments
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E preferred)
  • Experience with configuration management, nonconforming material review and disposition of discrepant hardware
  • Proven experience in structural FEA using ANSYS, NASTRAN or similar tools
  • Excellent digital literacy with the ability to rapidly learn and use a variety of software tools as needed.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Strong coordination and project management skills, in order to track, manage and prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Must be willing to support frequent travel (up to 15%) to our West Texas Launch Site
Preferred Qualifications:
  • M.S. degree in engineering
  • 5+ years of experience with Design and test experience in capsule recovery systems
  • Experience with destructive and non-destructive analysis and test methods
  • Proven familiarity with data reduction and analysis (MATLAB or similar)
