Overview

Altorfer Industries is currently seeking a Journey Technician for our Component Shop in our new facility located in Mokena, IL. This position is responsible for testing, disassembly/assembly, inspection and repair of all heavy machinery based components including but not limited to transmissions, torque converters, hydraulic pumps, valves, hydraulic cylinders and motors.



Basic Duties

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILIITIES (including, but not limited to):

    Ability to work safely and follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Verify conformance of component piece parts are to specifications, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and go-no-go gauges.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of component functionality to help determine root cause failure.
  • Ability to disassemble components and diagnose symptoms to provide accurate customer estimates.
  • Efficient and quality driven repair and/or reassembly of components is required.
  • Apply and adhere all critical torque specifications required per instructions provided.
  • Must be able to professionally and effectively communicate troubleshooting and operational issues while working closely with shop leadership.
  • Accurate record keeping on our service management software.
  • Occassionally crosstrain on transmission dyno operations and other interdepartmental focus areas
  • Ability to recognize and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor; may include department transfers to meet production needs.
  • General housekeeping of manufacturing areas and equipment to ensure a clean and safe environment including but not limited to sweeping, mopping of the production area and ensuring equipment and tooling is clean.


Qualifications

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 4+ Years of Heavy Equipment/Component Repair experience
  • Engine component repair knowledge a plus
  • Accredited certifications from a trade school or college


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Ability to perform high quality repairs, in an efficient fashion, and maintain a clean working environment while working in the department. Must be able to work independently. Ability to use resources for information (when written documentation is not available). Has good decision making practices and ability to follow directions . Demonstrates effective communication ability, representing Altorfer's professional image to customers and office personnel. Must have good organizational skills and ability to write technical reports. Must have intermediate keyboarding skills with a basic knowledge of Office software, preferably MS Word

This position will work in a shop environment. May on a continuous basis carry, bend and lift; up to 75 lbs. May walk and/or stand up to 8 hours in a shift. Will be required to wear appropriate safety equipment (IE- steel toed boots, safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, cut resistant gloves, etc.) for a given situation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Must be flexible to work extra hours if/when needed.
