Assists in leading the day-to-day operations of the department. Schedules, supports, and develops staff members. Collaborates with physicians/offices and other health care workers, to provide medical imaging and patient care while maintaining professional standards. Responsibilities
  • Performs quality diagnostic procedures, general as well as surgical, portable, and tomography. Is proficient in CT. Provides and uses radiation protection devices and techniques in accordance with prescribed safety standards. Displays working knowledge of job requirements.
  • Maintains radiographic quality. Errors are rare, tasks are completed promptly.
  • Correctly documents required information. Records are complete, accurate, and up to date; no filing errors are made.
  • Assists radiologists and/or physicians in specific procedures, patient care, and other duties as required. Assists radiologists and/or physicians in the administration of contrast media and other medications as required.
  • Applies knowledge of safe operation and use of x-ray and other required equipment. Malfunctions are reported immediately.
  • Performs appropriate quantity of work. Consistently productive and volunteers to take on additional work when finished with assigned tasks. Rotates shifts, weekends, and holidays as required by the department.
  • Directs patient flow as to specific room and time. Patients are not delayed unnecessarily for radiology services and do not wait longer than 15 minutes without explanation of delays.
  • Maintains communications with Nursing Services concerning patient condition and radiographic procedural changes.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
  • Transports patients when necessary. Patients are not unnecessarily delayed for scheduled tests.
  • Instructs, guides, directs, assists, supervises, and evaluates students in specific clinical and didactic aspects of their education in a caring manner.
  • Cleans departmental equipment and instruments.
  • Delivers high quality care while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required in the IR Lab in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care under the direct supervision of the physician.
  • Demonstrates and maintains proficiency in the manual skills and techniques required to prepare and maintain sterile fields and to maintain a clean procedure environment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of radiation safety and practice including, but not limited to the following:
    • Use of advanced imaging systems used in the IR Lab setting
  • Use of radiation protection devices and exposure levels for both the associate and patient.
  • Coordinates rooms/schedules/staffing to compliment patient care needs and delegates patient care in an organized manner.
  • Accountable for staffing needs and work schedules. Reviews and approves payroll.
  • Helps with staff education/in-services/specialized skilled training programs.
  • Assists in the hiring and orientation program of newly hired staff.
  • Acts as manager when manager is absent. Demonstrates the ability to meet the department work schedule.
  • Instructs and leads the staff to maintain a high level of productivity, intervening, when necessary, to problem solve, collaborating with leadership to effectively resolve complex unit situations.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Researches and recommends short- and long-term strategies to meet the patient care needs. Assists with the achievement of objectives and necessary modifications for attainment of goals.
  • Promotes positive interpersonal relations and serves as a role model within the department and with hospital personnel.
  • Evaluates and guides staff with appropriate input of job performance. Provides immediate feedback (positive and constructive) about job performance to personnel on team and gives input to leaders for staff performance evaluations.
  • Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance Cardiovascular Tech practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research.
  • Assess and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient's and their families' age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension.
  • Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • Two or more years of CT experience
  • Holds Permit-to-Practice Radiology in the state of Iowa.
  • Certified and holds current registration with the A.R.R.T. as a Radiologic Technologist.
  • Certified and holds current registration with the A.R.R.T. in CT.
  • Must be able to read and write English
  • Ability to assist IR Radiologist with interventional procedures.
  • Knowledge to proper post processing technique to achieve high optimize images.
  • Ability to assist Interventional Radiologist with vascular and Neuro-Endovascular procedures.
  • Demonstrates critical care skills to patients with higher acuity (ED, ICU, or OR.)
  • Advanced technical skills required to operate high risk interventional equipment specifically for Neuro-Endovascular procedures.
  • Must meet requirements for standby call which includes a 30-minute response time from primary residence to hospital.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • One year of supervisory experience in CT in the hospital environment or demonstrated leadership abilities of transitioning from peer to supervisory position.
  • Registered Vascular Interventional (VI) through ARRT.
