Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The PT Specialist III, Mi Familia Mi Futuro (MFMF) Community Ambassador is responsible for providing support services as a representative of the Mi Familia, Mi Futuro Program to Outreach, College Relations, Student Services, and other departments as needed to advance student success for underserved students. MFMF Community Ambassadors provide information to students, their families, and community members, and represent the college at school district functions and community events. They provide mobile outreach services and presentations in Spanish. MFMF Community Ambassadors will offer Spanish translation or interpretation services as needed. Evening and weekend hours required.

This is a temporary, grant-funded position. Continuation of the position from one academic year to the next is contingent upon continued grant funding.

  1. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  2. Represents the college at elementary, middle/intermediate, and high school visits, career, health, community, and corporate fairs
  3. Assists coordinator with executing on-campus and off-campus recruitment / retention focused events
  4. Collaborates with campus resources to seek new information about the college to promote academic and co-curricular programs to prospective students
  5. Conducts campus tours for prospective and new students, as well as community visitors. Creates relevant presentations about college information
  6. Shares information with students about admissions and application processes and New Student Orientation. Disperses information by various methods, which may include telephone calls, chats, emails, information tables, and various public speaking engagements
  7. Participates in various outreach events, committees, and initiatives on behalf of the college and department as needed and assigned by department manager. Prepares for programs/events by gathering and assembling the necessary materials
  8. Listens to student concerns (within scope of the level of this position) and determines if they need referral to other departments
  9. Provides general operational support within the department. Contributes to the operations of the campus during evening and weekend hours
  10. Actively participates in training sessions
  11. Responds actively and sensitively to students & community members' issues and inquiries. Informs and orients students to help them succeed in college setting
  12. Volunteer services to community organizations for special events and programs
  13. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with diverse clientele in a team environment
  • Strong commitment to customer service
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to gain knowledge of the rules and procedures of the college
  • Ability to maintain good positive relationship with the public, students, faculty, and staff
  • Proficiency with common office software (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Ability to organize functions to ensure compliance with due dates/deadlines and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to coach and transfer knowledge

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items up to 20 pounds to handle recruiting materials and setup for events; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Work hours will include some evening and weekend hours as needed
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $15.14
