Job Summary

This position is scheduled to begin Jan 2025. The purpose of this Faculty position is to collaborate and support the AAFA degree and certificates (CCL's) in Technical Theatre. This person will collaborate with the Theatre faculty and staff to support and sustain the occupational program. This faculty member will primarily teach occupational courses within their area of expertise but will also serve as a generalist in the Theatre discipline, teaching an array of theatre courses. Areas of expertise may include lighting technology, master electrician, construction of costumes, wigs and make-up, scenic construction, properties, and welding. This faculty member must align the program to USITT standards and build connections with professional venues for student internships and future employment. MCC produces four shows a year, two per semester following the League of Resident Theatre (LORT) production practices. These are co-curricular, collaborative productions, which are learning environment based, that are vital for the success of students. This faculty member will collaborate with the Theatre Faculty and production staff on all department shows.

Essential Functions
  • Instruction - Supervises and instructs a diverse population of students in a classroom or lab setting; Develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials; assesses student knowledge of subject matter and prepares and grades exams; maintains academic support hours to assist and advise students. Engages in the academic life of the college by participating in district-wide and campus committees and activities. Develops and enhances knowledge of subject matter taught and individual training skills required to remain current with new trends and developments in the field and to promote the scholarship of teaching and learning through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, and/or workshops.
  • Production - Participates in main stage and black box productions. May supervise MCC student representation at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and other invitational touring opportunities. Collaborate with the Theatre faculty on all of the productions; Collaborate with the Theatre technical and production staff; Collaborate with marketing to create publicity materials for the occupational program.
  • Administration- Assesses occupational class schedule and curriculum needs; assign classes under the direction of the Theatre Discipline Coordinators and Department Chair, recruit and mentor adjunct faculty as needed, advise majors on program and degree requirements.
  • Professional Engagement/Service - Engages in academic life of the college and participates in departmental, college and district committees.


Minimum Qualifications

The Academic Teaching Fields require the following from an accredited college or university:

A Master's degree in Theatre Arts, or a Master's degree in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in Theatre Arts is required.

Desired Qualifications

A. MFA or MA in the Technical Theatre areas from an accredited College or University.

B. Teaching experience in Technical Theatre at the college level.

C. Minimum of five years working in technical areas of production at the professional level and/or the college level.

D. Experience in technical direction, production management, and/or production lead.

E. Knowledge in two or more of these areas: lighting technology, master electrician, construction of costumes, wigs and make-up, scenic construction, properties, and welding.

F. Knowledge of computer technology integration and automation in Technical Theatre.

G. Professional Technical certifications and affiliations, not including design-based memberships.

H. Experience collaborating with diverse populations and programs.

Special Working Conditions

May be required to lift or carry up to 25lbs.

Work Schedule Varies: May be required to work evenings and weekends.

Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving: https://district.maricopa.edu/regulations/admin-regs/section-4/4-14
