Full Salary Range: The full salary range for this position is $104,900/year - $198,900/year. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University.

Brief Summary of Job Duties

Under the general direction of the Student Health Medical Director, the Physical Therapy Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the Student Health Physical Therapy department which has a staff of 2 physical therapists, a physical therapist specializing in orthotics (independent contractor), 1 physical therapy assistant, a physical therapy aide and an office manager. Duties include but are not limited to: designing the master schedule, managing equipment, ensuring patient satisfaction, managing staff issues and providing direct outpatient care to UCSB students.

Required Qualifications

* Must have a California Physical Therapist license with specialization in outpatient orthopedic therapy.

* Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

* Master's Degree or Doctorate from an accredited postgraduate program.

* Experience in orthopedic physical therapy rehabilitation.

* Experience in pelvic floor and postural restoration.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience in supervision of physical therapy professionals.

Special Conditions of Employment

* Mandated reporting requirements of Child Abuse and Adult Dependent Abuse.

* Student Health requires that clinical staff must successfully complete and pass the background check and credentialing process before the start date.

* To comply with Santa Barbara County Public Health Department Health Officer Order, this position must provide evidence of annual influenza vaccination, or wear a surgical mask while working in patient care areas during the influenza season.

* Per California Code of Regulations Title 8, Section 5199 Aerosol Transmissible Disease Standard requires; upon hire and annually thereafter Tuberculosis (TB) screening for all employees. The method of testing is determined by past medical history and any current symptoms.

* Per Cal/OSHA regulations and UCSB Campus Policy, all UCSB personnel who use respiratory protection equipment shall be included in the UCSB Respiratory Protection Program and required to complete respirator fit testing upon hire and annually thereafter, completed by UCSB Environmental Health & Safety.

* Any HIPAA or FERPA violation is subject to disciplinary action.

* Student Health is closed between the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:

Direct Patient Care - 75%

* Plans and administers standard examinations of muscle, nerve, joint and functional abili
* Plans treatment objectives and programs according to results of evaluation.
* Explains treatment objectives and methods to patients and families.
* Directs and aids patients in exercises and functional training using such techniques as passive, active, resistive, coordination, relaxation, etc.
* Utilizes such physical modalities as ultrasound, massage techniques, hydrocollator packs, cryotherapy and electrical stimulation, etc.
* Evaluates patients' responses and progress and discusses with appropriate clinician
* Records treatments given and maintains appropriate records.
* Seeks educational opportunities to expand knowledge and keep current in the professional field.

Physical Therapy Management - 25%

* Develops protocols and policies.
* Is responsible for long and short range planning in terms of:

  • Staffing
  • Equipment
  • Master schedule
  • Patient management
  • New programs to address the changing needs of the patient

* Is responsible for the safety and maintenance of equipment.
* Ensures that the professional staff provides quality patient care and documentation.
* Ensures contracts for external professionals are current.
* Oversees the development of templates and other documents for the electronic medical records system.
* Provides statistical data for the Administrative Services Director.
* Monitors income and expenses.
* Monitors billing for specialty services to ensure accuracy.
* Serves as a resource for all SH staff.
* Oversees compliance to Physical Therapy practice regulations for adequate supervision of other physical therapists and the Physical Therapy Assistant.
* Serves on SH and campus Committees.
* Supervises staff:

  • Interviews and hires
  • Trains and teaches professional staff
  • Oversees the training and teaching of non-professional and student staff
  • Approves or denies time off requests
  • Provides annual evaluations
  • Implements corrective action as necessary, including dismissal
