Math Team Coach Job Description

Position Title: Math Team Coach

Reports To: Director of Mathematics

Essential Functions:

• Plans activities and events for students after school that meet the needs and interests of the students involved.

  • Registers teams for competitions.

  • Stays abreast of related news throughout the year.

  • Learns the new rules for competitions

  • Organizes and orders supplies

  • Communicates with feeder schools' Math Team Coaches (in cases where feeder schools have a math team)

  • As appropriate, designs event(s) that includes parents and families (eg, freshman activity night, general activity night, etc)

• Recruits new club members throughout the school year.

• Supervises students during regularly scheduled meetings, events and competitions and until all students have left the facilities.

• Promotes and publicizes club meeting events by utilizing district and school communication forums (including but not limited to video announcements, social media, fliers and posters).

• Maintains a variety of documents including the club's activity account budget and attendance records for both practices and competitions.

• Works with school personnel to request room space for meetings and competitions.

• Makes appropriate travel arrangements and communicates with families regarding competitions or other events in a timely manner.

• Fundraises when necessary, as appropriate

• Collaborates with Director to maintain a consistent vision

• Plans activities to meet the needs, skills, and interests of the students involved.

• Uses appropriate channels to resolve concerns and problems.

• Adheres to D219 Board of Education policies and procedures and other professional agency policies.

Goal of the Club:

The goal of the Math Team is to successfully compete in mathematics, create an enthusiasm among students around mathematics, and promote the unique, creative problem solving aspects of the discipline.

Calendar: September through May

Hours Per Week: 1 hour per week, plus 6 competitions per year and possibly the State-level competition.

Building: Both North and West each have their own team.

Performance Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District evaluation procedures.
