Position Summary The Laboratory Supervisor oversight includes maintaining adequate staffing, overseeing the operational quality, maintaining, and improving the phlebotomy and customer service skills of staff, and maintaining compliance with regulations. This position will be filled by a Clinical Lab Scientist with previous supervisory and Main Lab experience. This position will be responsible for staff selection, counseling, and performance reviews with the oversight of the Director of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Laboratories Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job Schedule, coordinate and monitor the Section's day-to-day operational functions, which can include Proficiency Testing, Quality Control, and Quality Assurance testing and follow-up. Directs workflow to ensure turn around time goals are met. Perform competency assessments and required evaluations of all staff in section. Evaluations are performed on schedule. Recruit, train and retain staff. Conducts coaching and delivers disciplinary action with input and assistance from Director/Executive Director and Human Resources. Interacts with LBMMC customers, which minimally includes physicians, office staff, technical staff and Nurses. Represent Section and Pathology Department at appropriate meetings inside and outside of department. Functions as Section resource for clinical activities. Implement annual Section operating plans and adjust operations as indicated. Develop annual Section strategic plan. Ensure strategy includes customer satisfaction measures. Provide input to the development of the annual Section operating and capital budgets. Establish and maintain Section policies and procedures in cooperation with Section Medical Directors. Procedures to include technical protocols, computer system usage, supply monitoring/ordering practices, and staffing levels required for safe operations. Develops and implements goals and objectives with Director/Executive Director. Contributes to the completion of corporate objectives through the guidance of Director/Executive Director. Meets regularly to review progress. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Qualifications/Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience with high complexity testing. Minimum of 3 years management experience in a hospital laboratory. Technical knowledge in Phlebotomy and Main Lab preferred. At least three years experience in the particular subspecialty or operational environment. In depth knowledge of Laboratory activities and their impact on laboratory services. Knowledge, where indicated, of billing procedures, coding, and regulatory requirements. Positive work/guest relation skills are critical to the position. Ability to interact with laboratory personnel who have high degrees of technical expertise in specialized areas. Demonstrated supervisory skills in handling professional and/or support services workforce. Education/Licensure/Certification: Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science. Current California State licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist is required for Section Supervisor (A). ASCP Certification preferred. |
