PURPOSE Under general supervision of Design Manager and coordinating with sales and production departments, serves as the professional point of contact for manufactured component customers by working with customers, architects, engineers and outside sales representatives to coordinate and create design projects including roof and floor trusses for single family, multi family, commercial and remodels by performing preconstruction meetings, field verifications, integrating information into design layout and resolving issues in the field. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Technical Design
- Collaborates with outside sales personnel and customers to safely and accurately design and service engineered components with high quality.
- Develops layout and truss design drawings from architectural drawings or sketches provided to the company.
- Makes phone calls to customers, building designers or other professional entities to obtain or clarify information shown on blueprints and drawings.
- May facilitate information pertaining to truss products that have been field modified or damaged and forward to the appropriate designer and/or create truss repair drawings for review and approval by a professional engineer.
- Analyzes technical data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
- Understands the building code and applies knowledge of special truss/panel industry issues and addresses issues appropriately.
- Generates documentation, job artifacts, and layouts for sealed drawings, permits, pricing and production.
- Manages a portfolio of jobs greater than 50K BF at any given time.
- Other duties as assigned.
Sales
- Monitors truss product line performance against competitors while keeping up to date on industry trends, standards and practices.
- Executes sales efforts relating to truss products; including capturing new leads in local and outlying markets within a specified geographical region.
- Visits customers on job sites to initiate sales and provide technical and customer support.
- Develops short and long-term sales strategy including sales and profitability objectives.
- Develops and delivers product presentations, helps sales force and customers, and executes pro-construction meetings with customers to reduce construction errors and delays.
- Works closely with area leadership and other support groups to achieve sales goals and initiatives per the annual operating plan and annual strategy.
- Analyzes building trends, permit activities, and customer strategies to help maximize competitive edge in the marketplace.
- Drives value-added sales process, manages complex proposals and ensures highest level of customer satisfaction by interfacing with all lines of business to ensure a seamless experience.
- Actively engages in selling engineered trusses and services.
- Consults with customers to determine project requirements by preparing information regarding design, specifications, materials, and estimated costs.
- Designs plan layout as requested by customer utilizing blueprints or sketches.
- May coordinate/facilitate/control specialty orders: purchases, delivery, production, and proper customer invoicing.
- Monitors all available market sources for leads and building trends to insure maximum market share.
- Makes sales calls in the field to measure, sell, follow-up, etc. as part of providing exceptional customer service.
- Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or coworkers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with Mitek, MS Word, MS Excel, and AutoCAD is required. COMPETENCIES

- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Working knowledge of business-to-business selling.
- Advanced knowledge of products or product lines.
- Strong knowledge of construction industry.
- High level of self-motivation.
- Ability to think strategically, forecast and drive sales.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent presentation, negotiating, and influencing skills.
- Ability to use tact and skill in dealing with other staff, management and vendors.
- Proficiency in Mitek, Microsoft Office Suite and an enterprise resource planning (ERP) program.
