Duties and Responsibilities |
Responsibilities will include the following:
- Develops processes and tools to support process and analysis of satellite imagery using Google Earth Engine, python and or R.
- Writes scripts to extract spectral and textural indices, and distant-related values for environmental features from satellite imagery.
- Develops machine learning models for image classification.
- Performs full range of analytical work related to the development and implementation of systems, databases to create, maintain, display, and update geospatial data.
- Develops tools that use geospatial technology to answer research questions.
- Analyze data from complex surveys and field study data from our ongoing epidemiological and entomological study in Kano and Ibadan
- Present findings at research meetings and conferences
- Develops systems and application documentation, research papers, user-training materials, and quality control procedures; prepares a variety of technical reports, correspondence, manuals and other written materials.
- Manages and mentors research assistants.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
The Urban Malaria Project is dedicated to comprehending the burden and determinants of malaria transmission in urban areas within countries where malaria is endemic. Our ultimate objective is to leverage this understanding to contribute valuable insights to national malaria strategic planning. The project team consists of faculty and staff from Loyola University Chicago, University of Ibadan, Osun state University and Bayero University.
The Loyola team, located within the Department of Health Informatics and Data Science, seeks to hire one Postdoctoral Fellow with strong remote sensing data analysis and machine learning expertise to support modeling research for urban malaria microstratification across Africa. The candidate will do this work in collaboration with national malaria control programs. |
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience |
M.D or Ph.D. |
Qualifications |
- Ph.D. in a geography, ecology, environmental science, urban planning, computer science or similar technical discipline preferred
- Published articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Ability to communicate quantitative work clearly and effectively to non-experts
- Ability to work with ambiguity.
- French language skills
- Excellent managerial skills
