About the Department:

The Department of Health Administration and Policy educates students and conducts research in health systems management, health policy and health informatics. The department fields academic programs in Health Administration/Healthcare Management and Health Informatics at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels to prepare new leaders and experts in the use of technology, evidence-based decision making and health systems management to improve public health and the quality of health care.

About the Position:

Instructional Faculty in the Department of Health Administration and Policy are responsible for contributing to academic excellence in the fields of Health Administration/Healthcare Management and Policy. This includes teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, engaging in curriculum management and oversight for program accreditation and evaluation, student enrichment, student career advising and engaging in service activities related to the advancing the discipline and academic community.

Responsibilities:

Teaching:



  • Designs and teaches courses related to Health Administration/Healthcare Management at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • Develops and updates curriculum that integrates current trends and best practices in Health Administration/Healthcare Management aligned with AUPHA Certification and CAHME accreditation;
  • Supervises student capstone projects;
  • Provides career advising and mentorship to students pursuing Health Administration degrees; and
  • Utilizes contemporary educational technologies and methods to enhance student centered learning experiences (including the use of learning management systems for online, hybrid, and traditional format courses).


Service:



  • Serves on departmental, college, and university committees;
  • Engages in professional activities such as conference organization and journal reviews;
  • Engages in peer reviews of teaching, PTR, and search activities;
  • Participates in community outreach programs that align with personal and departmental expertise; and
  • Contributes to the ongoing development and accreditation processes of Health Administration (AUPHA and CAHME) programs and Public Health programs (CEPH).


Required Qualifications:



  • Graduate degree in Health Administration, Public Health, Healthcare Management, or closely related field with working experience in Healthcare Management/Administration and specialty accreditation;
  • Academic teaching experience in a Health Administration/Healthcare Management program or closely related field; and
  • For individuals with only a Masters level preparation certification in Fellows of the American College of Health Care Executives (FACHE) preferred.


Knowledge:



  • Subject Expertise: Extensive knowledge in a specific field of study related to Healthcare Management or Administration.
  • Curriculum Development: Understanding of curriculum design, assessment methods, and educational standards for Health Administration programs at the university level and in professional practice.
  • Higher Education and Healthcare Administration Trends: Awareness of current trends, issues, and innovations in higher education, including teaching methods, technology integration, policy and regulatory changes.


Skills:



  • Teaching and Instructional Design: Ability to effectively design courses, deliver lectures, facilitate discussions, and engage students through various learning activities. Skills in adapting teaching methods for diverse learning environments, including online and hybrid course teaching.
  • Program Evaluation: Skill in analyzing and interpreting data on student and program performance related to the academic program performance and outcomes.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for teaching, collaborating with colleagues, participating in academic discussions, writing professional peer review and accreditation self-study reports, and scholarship and program reports and proposals.
  • Technological Proficiency: Competent in the use of educational technology tools and platforms, such as learning management systems (LMS), virtual meeting software, and discipline-specific software.


Abilities:



  • Critical Thinking and Analysis: Ability to critically evaluate information, solve complex problems, and make informed decisions based on evidence and analysis.
  • Mentorship and Advising: Aptitude for mentoring and advising students on Health Administration/Healthcare Management career development matters.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in teams, both within the department and across disciplines in CPH.
  • Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Ability to adapt to changes in the academic environment and continually update knowledge and skills, particularly in response to advancements in their field and shifts in educational technology.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Doctoral degree in Health Administration, Public Health, Healthcare Management, or closely related field;
  • Academic teaching across the curriculum in an accredited Health Administration/Healthcare Management or public health program in a research-intensive university; and
  • Experience in a US healthcare service organization, medical practice, health system or related healthcare business partner such as an insurance company, accreditation, or regulatory entity.
