Job Summary

The CDL Truck Driver works with the CDP Leads and the Transportation Logistic/Supply Chain Manager to plan and execute various pickups & deliveries throughout the organization and assists with the servicing of retail locations with truck deliveries. The Driver is responsible for the transportation of goods utilizing a gasoline- or diesel-powered tractor-trailer combination using intercity routes including local roads, interstates, and highways. In addition, the Driver loads and unloads truck deliveries utilizing forklifts, pallet jacks, and double stackers. Due to the constant contact with internal and external customers, it is essential that the CDL Truck Driver provides excellent customer service displaying an "Attitude of Gratitude" in order to support the mission of the organization.

Hours of Operation: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday thru Saturday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday

Example Duties and Activities

  • Drives the gasoline- or diesel-powered tractor-trailer combination to destinations following safe driving practices and rules of the road. Inspects the vehicle for defects before and after trips and submits a report indicating vehicle condition. Maintains driver log according to I.C. regulations keeping a record of the amount and type of cargo being delivered. Additionally, will occasionally drive a 26' box truck for smaller deliveries.

  • Loads and unloads materials onto trailers with proper loading techniques and weight distribution.

  • Plans travel routes effectively to ensure safety and timeliness.

  • Maintains forklift certification. Operates gas and electric forklifts, as well as a pallet jack, and double stacker.

  • Maintains effective communication with other retail leadership staff and support staff.

  • Cross-trains in other departments/areas and acts as an active and productive site member when not driving and will be directed by CDP Leads or Transportation Logistic/Supply Chain to assist in any and all operational functions at a site.

Required Competencies

  • Degree and Credential Requirements - Current CDL Class A license and the ability to obtain a Forklift Operator certification.

  • Driving Expertise - Understands and follows the Department of Transportation rules and regulations and is able to safely drive a gasoline- or diesel-powered tractor-trailer. Possesses a strong sense of direction, is familiar with Indiana's geography of urban and rural communities, and is able to read and follow maps.

  • Customer Focus - Has the ability to see, comprehend and relate with customers in an impartial, unbiased yet effective and balanced manner; builds and maintains customer satisfaction with the products and services offered by the organization; provides excellent service to internal and external customers.

  • Communication Skills - Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual and non-verbal communication skills, as well as listening skills to comprehend customers' needs.

  • Mathematical Aptitude - Is able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Computes rate, ratio, and percent and draws and interprets bar graphs; skid counts, carton counts, and computing total quantities.

  • Adaptability - Adjusts priorities quickly in response to frequently changing circumstances while maintaining a positive attitude. Continually assesses tasks and responds to those requiring extra attention. Foresees and seeks to avoid crisis management.

  • Teamwork- Works well with others and makes valued contributions to the outputs of others in order to assist the team or project to achieve the required outputs.

  • Safety Awareness - Recognizes the risks in activities, applies the right measures to control and manage those risks, and ensures all safety protocols are followed.

  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Background Screening - All candidates must pass a pre-employment background check. Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and qualify under the district's insurance carrier when driving a district vehicle. Must supply up to 10 years of employer contact(s) previously driven for to our background check vendor.

  • Additionally, will submit to and pass a 10-point drug screen pre-hire, during promotions, and if accidents occur.

  • Hard to Very Hard Physical Work - Is able to spend time in excess of 8 hours standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and crouching. Uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaches with hands and arms. Can climb, balance, talk and hear. Has the ability to move and lift up to 50 pounds. Can manage frequent exposure to loud noises, outside weather conditions, and moving mechanical parts. Will be occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. There is a risk of electrical shock and vibration.

  • Visual Acuity - Has close, distance, peripheral, color vision abilities, and is able to adjust focus.

  • Minimum of 18 years of age

  • Has no conflicts working a varied schedule beyond normal business hours, including some evening, weekend, and holiday hours with overtime as necessary.
