Primary Purpose of this Job The primary responsibility for the CNC Milling Machinist III is to operate various types and sizes of computer numeric controlled (CNC) production machine tools in the machining of forgings or stock to customer requirements and specifications using a variety of cutting tools. This is a 1st shift position working Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm. Essential Functions
- Work independently without assistance
- Follow established quality and safety standards
- Receive work instructions, operation sheets, setup sheets, 1st piece and in-process check sheets from department supervision indicating such information as part and operation number to be performed
- Read and interpret dimensional drawings, tool setup sheets and manufacturing instructions in performing required machining operations.
- Complete full machine setups without any supervision and/or assistance necessary
- Work with Engineering on developmental projects
- Train and assist level I and level II CNC Machinists
- Operate various types of computer numeric controlled production machines in the machining of forgings made from various types of metal such as stainless steel, aluminum, chrome-nickel, Inconel, titanium, etc.; machine forgings to close tolerance, e.g. +/- .001; operate multiple machines at the same time
- Load and unload pieces manually or with hoist; apply coolant lubricant and change worn or damaged tools as required
- Use precision or standard measuring devices such as inside and outside micrometers, dial indicators, Vernier scales, fixed frame gauges or special gauges, profilometers, etc. to check machined dimensions and surface finishes conforming to customer prints and/or specifications
- Exercise care in handling material before and after the machining operation
- Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- A minimum of 7 years' CNC Milling experience required
- Aerospace industry experience required
- Experience with large parts, large milling required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Okuma controls experience highly desired
- Ability to run more than 1 piece of equipment at a time
- Turning experience preferred in addition to the required Milling experience.
Skills
- Knowledge of basic machining principles, GD&T, blueprint reading and program reading
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
- Strong analytical skills to analyze and resolve difficult problems effectively and implement long-term solutions
- Ability to use hand tools, measuring instruments and gages to ensure proper setups and machining operations.
