Major Responsibilities:

  • Determination of appropriate radiologic technique and position for patient using immobilization and support devices.
    • 1)Positions patient, adjusts equipment, secures, immobilizes and uses support devices as needed to tactfully perform procedures. Ensures that all patients are shielded in an appropriate manner. When appropriate, visible signs of collimation to reduce radiation scatter should be evident.
    • 2)Determines appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and patient's condition to obtain quality images to provide to the radiologists.
    • 3)Consistently performs 2 patient identifiers prior to the start of every patient examination. Technologists obtains history from patients regarding reason for prescribed tests. This information is documented on the radnet order or as a PACS note for the radiologist's review.
  • Participation in problem solving issues addressing [patients, department operation, quality assurance, interdepartmental relationships and employee morale.
    • 1)Including rounding with the OR schedulers twice a day.
    • 2)Maintain positive guest relations and telephone etiquette. Following prescribed departmental policies and procedures.
    • 3)Maintains current ARRT, IEMA and CPR without being prompted.
  • Operation of more advanced fluoroscopic and radiographic exams throughout the hospital.
    • 1)Assists radiologists with fluoroscopic procedures to include the more advanced and specialty procedures requiring additional experience and knowledge. For example: Arthrograms, and myelograms
    • 2)Operates portable radiographic equipment and C-arm effectively in patient room, intensive care, and surgery. For example: Digital Portable in OR and C-arms. 1. AAA's with injector 2. Pain management 3. ERCP's
  • Adherence to all accepted safety standards and practices to ensure patient safety and quality patient care.
    • 1)Maintains compliance with established safety standards to protect patients and staff at all times.
    • 2)Maintains supplies and cleanliness for assigned room on a daily basis.
    • 3)Assures accuracy of exam performed and requisition are the same. For example the rights and lefts vs bilateral.
    • 4)Performs clerical duties such as maintaining adequate patient records, answering phones, scheduling examinations, giving instructions to patients in preparation for examination to provide smooth and continuous departmental services.
  • Coordination of Quality Control.
    • 1)Coordinates the flow of patients into and out of the department in accordance with established departmental procedures. Transports patients into and out of department as necessary.
    • 2)Checks film quality to assure optimal quality is attained and correct image labeling is provided.
    • 3)Performs quality control activities, responds to inquiries, coordinates patient flow, and communicates with staff radiologists and other hospital personnel to ensure exams are completed in a timely fashion.
    • 4)Prepares radiographic/fluoroscopic rooms for procedures, maintains equipment, and supplies as required.
    • 5)Reports deficient inventory of supplies and linen to the Radiology Coordinator.
    • 6)Prepares mixtures and/or contrast as necessary following prescribed formulas.
  • Provision of instruction and orientation of students from the College of Lake County. (CLC)
    • 1)This includes the assessment for each examination per protocol set by CLC.
    • 2)Participation in problem-solving issues addressing patients, department operations, quality assurance procedures, interdepartmental relations, and employee morale.
    • 3)Maintains positive "guest relations" and telephone etiquette following prescribed departmental policies and procedures.

Education/Experience Required:

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited AMA School of Radiology 1 years experience as a General Radiographer And Competent with performing complex c-arm cases, Fluoroscopy cases

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of HIS system Basic Knowledge of RIS system Effective interpersonal skills Ability to interact with customers from all levels
  • IEMA accreditation in medical radiation technology American Registry of Radiologic Technologists registered (ARRT) CPR certified

Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to make independent professional decisions pertaining to high quality patient care High degree of technical skills Must be able to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities Must be conscientious in practicing high quality patient care Ability to work rotating shifts any day of the week Radiation exposure Must be able to deal with extremely ill patients Ability to lift and/or move patients. Heavy lifting: Lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases. This position can recognize needs and behaviors of the following age groups: pediatric (newborn, toddler, and school-age), adolescent, adult, and older adult. Evidence of this can be shown by recognizing levels of development and modifying approach and exhibiting communication skills necessary to interpret age specific responses.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
