Anticipated start:
Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit's instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall quarter 2024 through fall quarter 2025. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment.
Position duration:
Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

Position description

The The Department of Literature at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers. The department offers courses in a broad range of areas including, but not limited to the following genres:



  • English-language literatures, including American and British literatures
  • French and Francophone literatures (in French and in translation)
  • German literature (in German and in translation)
  • Greek and Latin literatures (in original and in translation)
  • Italian literature (in Italian and in translation)
  • Russian literature (in translation)
  • Comparative literature
  • Digital humanities
  • Indigenous literatures
  • Non-western literatures
  • Postcolonial literature
  • Visual, performative, sonic, filmic, and other media

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at the time the application is submitted)

  • Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in literature or related field.
  • A minimum of one-year college-level teaching experience.
